Orienteering race 54:00 [5] **** 6.7 km (8:04 / km) +175m 7:08 / km

SOL2 short brown at Bonskeid. Good race and really enjoyed it. Trying to chase down HD by 2' but never caught her. Navigation on the edge at times, but managed to hold it together. Small wobble into the crag at 4, but hard pushed to find any other time loss. Seemed to lose a bit on a few legs where I think I've just missed the fastest line somehow (7,9). Total distance = course length + 10%
Almost 2' / km quicker than when I last ran here 21 years ago :-)

Point bagging "run" in Glen Girnock with J. Started off up Creag Ghiubhais from the east. Knew this would be a tough wee climb and it was - up through steep man-eating heather and rocky stuff. Rapidly realised this was not the best day to choose for my first shorts outing of the year as blood started dripping down my shins. However, the stunted old pines at the top almost made up for it. Then down broken rock on the west side and across the bog to climb towards the gap between Creag nam Ban and the next cp on Sgor an h-Iolaire. It's a few years since I've been up here but I'm sure there were far more deer tracks at the time, now it's just lots more man-eating heather. Finally picked up a path once we got onto the ridge proper and broke into a trot for the first time, but sadly this petered out again soon after the high point, and there was yet more heather off the south end. J mutterred about turning left once we hit the track, but I (foolishly) told him to man up and we crossed the next bog towards the foot of the Coyles of Muick and the 3rd cp. The one good thing about this hill is that it is mostly grassy, but we were both tired and it was a slow climb to the top. Then it was just a long slow run back along the ridge, but a run at least. Found a decent line off the north west end back down to the gate in Glen Girnock.
Bit of a beast made a lot worse by us starting tired and low on energy.

Home - P'murchie rd by DW, over the T'phins/Lumph rd and on to Tarland rd, church brae down to Lumph and back by DAP. Nice. Thought it would be a bit longer than it was, but no bad thing as quite tired. Need to get a couple of longer rides in sometime soon though.

Tech 10 no 6 Pannanich. Good session on height judgement on steep slopes. Pretty accurate with my nav. Didn't spike boulder at 6 and wasn't certain which of several unmapped ones was the correct one. Wrong crag at 8 too - didn't think it was right at the time, but didn't really want to go exploring too much in that area! Otherwise spiked everything, kept good contact and judged the heights well. Tough!

Up to a high start on Pannanich. Walked much of it, but still an effort.

16 x 1'+1' round the 2 bridges at Glen T. Averaging 260m / rep (3:49/km). Much better than expected today and good to get the session out the way.

Monday Mar 16, 2015 #

Mountain biking 50:00 [2] 11.0 km (4:33 / km)

Easy recovery ride. From home, DW to white cott, line of the old rd to Bell Wood, lap of the woods and out at the WHW corner, then back via Drumnagesk. Bit wet and muddy and a few too many gates, but nice route otherwise.

Running 10:00 [2] 1.0 km (10:00 / km)

Managed to avoid doing too much at after-school club. Kids were happy enough though.
