Running warm up/down 15:00 [2] 2.0 km (7:30 / km)

To start. Also collected a few controls after, but walked round with E.

Orienteering race 43:00 [5] **** 5.0 km (8:36 / km) +150m 7:29 / km
spiked:12/13c

CSC green course. Set off steady with the aim of taking my time to get things right. Went fine to 5, then somehow misread the contours to 6 and ended up climbing way too far up the slope and lost 2+'. Saw LE heading in as I came out, which gave me a kick up the xxx. Attacked the rest of the course from there, somehow managing to find something left in my legs and keeping it clean. 3' down on HD, but pretty happy with all except no 6. Also pretty happy with the state of the legs after yesterday - ice bath therapy doing its magic again.

Note

10/13 fastest splits after long run on Sat confirms what I have been feeling - running is going well, just need to control my speed better.

Running 3:00:00 [3] 29.6 km (6:05 / km) +550m 5:34 / km

Guiding for RTH 18-miler at Balmoral. S side of Garmaddie, riverside, loop to bbq hut, green bridge, Ripe hill and back over the top of the forest. Lovely morning, good company and a great run. Felt like I could have run further if I'd had to. First ice bath of the year after in the Dee.

Running 55:00 [3] 8.8 km (6:15 / km) +230m 5:32 / km

Guiding for RTH at Balmoral. Out along the river to the west then back via the Albert cairn hill and John Brown. Comfortable pace and well behaved group. Nice afternoon too.

Orienteering 1:13:00 [3] **** 6.4 km (11:24 / km) +250m 9:33 / km
spiked:4/7c

Feeling a bit brighter this morning, so time for tech 10 no 5 on a new bit of map for me at the MoD+C interface. Some longer legs on vaguer stuff as well as some contoured bits. Didn't have any warm up and promptly messed up no 1 - not careful enough about my height, then turned up the hill instead of down. 2 was fine and held a nice straight bearing. 3 chose to avoid the "optimal" route by the path (and resisted the temptation to bag cp 70 on the top of Cnoc Dubh), but then drifted a bit in the vague stuff. Relocated off the power line below and did actually pass over the control site, but had difficulty convincing myself I was in the right place. 4 deliberately aimed off near the control as it looked difficult, but would have got it fine if I'd held my line. 5 made completely parallel error, which I didn't spot at the time, although it didn't seem quite right. Found an ok line across the gorge to 6 and bagged cp 69 in the process, passing Jules Lines on the rocks. Ok to 7.
Same story again making errors on the vaguer stuff.

Running 32:00 [2] 5.0 km (6:24 / km)

Still feeling wappit. Short easy run onto Tom's Cairn (cp92) late afternoon with J and E. Cleared up nicely and lovely light.

Running 1:01:00 [3] 7.7 km (7:55 / km) +275m 6:43 / km

Still feeling a bit tired and low, so went for a pick-me-up feel-good run that I made up as I went. Parked at Potties then headed up to the Craigmore trig point (to bag a cp) taking a straightish line through the terrain. Came back off through the fenced off section that's never been mapped. It's really quite nice now and actually a lot better than much of the mapped area which has now been cut down. We should get the map gap filled in - assuming there's no special reason for us not using it.
Then crossed the road to Sluie and headed up the hill to bag the trig point cp on Ord More too. Up by the orienteers line and back by the 4wd trench.
Felt a whole lot better for it :-)
