Running 2:30:00 [3]

Last big run. For the first time was struggling a bit for motivation this morning, probably just because I'm tired. Headed out for a hilly road run to give the legs a chance to get used to tarmac. Down to Kinker on DW, then military road over the hill to L'phanan, church brae up to Tarland rd, 2nd right down the glen (actually meant to take the next road), left to T'phins, then back over the big hill to Kinker on the back road. Picked up once I got going until legs got sore after ~2h, especially on the descent to Kinker. L calf niggling a bit, but never got any worse.
Time to start the taper now. The hard work is done.

Mountain biking 1:15:00 [3]

With J and E from Shooting Greens to Banchory by the (now signed) DW. Tea and scone, then back by the riverside track. Good ride, only slightly damp overhead, but lots of mud splash from the track. Good pace too - E doesn't do easy any more - so hope it wasn't too much effort for my "recovery" day.

Wasn't sure what I'd feel like running today. Decided to set off on the road to Lumphanan (need to get used to tarmac a bit more) and see how it felt. Was better than expected so ended up doing a loop across the bowl, then over the hill to the DW and back on the railway. Was trying to keep a reasonable pace going towards the end, but when I pushed coming along the railway I felt a twinge in my left calf, so eased off again. Better than expected and enjoyable with J's company.

Running hills 26:35 [5]

DR handicap up Gaellaig hill. Was still feeling tired from Tues night, but a bit better after w-u. Felt ok as I set off and gradually wound in 2 runners ahead. Was also hoping to wind in Marie, but realised fairly rapidly that she was actually gaining on me. Steph cruised by quite early on, looking good, and then a while later most of the others went by too - not so good for the moral. Seemed a long way and the mist made it impossible to see where we were heading. Turned out to be much further along the top than I remembered. Finished feeling a bit down as I'd hoped all my recent hill work would be paying off, but probably I'm just suffering from a few weeks of hard training. Hopefully the rebound effect will come once I start to ease back next week.

Running tempo 1:04:00 [4]

Round the long GT loop with Marie and Sam. A good brisk pace from the start, then Marie waved us ahead and I tried to keep pace with Sam. Held her for a while but she broke me eventually. Felt like a good workout by the top of the hill. Return felt better than it normally does after intervals. Just what I was needing I think.

With J, out to Maryfield then down to river. Turn left, along to big bend by Joe's, up to DW and home. Nice circuit - not one I've strung together before. Tired legs but ok for a plod.
