Orienteering race 58:00 [4]

Birsemore CSC W blue. Hideous start to the course up the steep slopes through crappy green which made me realise that my cold was going to cause some problems! Tried to ignore it and pushed steadily on. Missed no 9 dropping too low, but no other errors. Really disappointed in the course planning - too much slog and not enough challenging navigation which didn't show off Birsemore at its best. Happy to finish 4th behind CW, JT and KM.

Running warm up/down 40:00 [2]

To start plus some extra, mostly walk back from finish, and walk/jog round to pick up a few controls with J

Stretching 15:00 [1]

Mountain biking 1:30:00 [2]

With E from Aboyne to Dinnet on DW, over to GT, across the Tanar and alongside the burn (E's idea), ToEss and back to Aboyne on the road. Really nice ride. Thought it might be chilly but wasn't at all. Just a few patches of snow and ice left. Took longer than I thought - out for almost 2h - but kept a steady pace.

Note

Got a bit of a cold, so decided not to run to try and shake it off quickly. Walked down to meet E from school - felt almost Spring like

Running 47:00 [3]

Full lap of H'head at lunchtime. Feeling generally sluggish although no specific aches - no great surprise tbh.

(rest day)

Travelling home.

A great holiday - one of the best. Didn't really go with any big plans or expectations as wasn't sure what E would be up for, but ended up doing 5 full on days of skiing (albeit at an easy pace), easily >100km and lots of climb. Weather and snow conditions were top. While we put ourselves into some briefly stressful situations I'm sure we all got more out of the experience as a result. Watching E's skill and confidence improve each day was just great and he was so full of himself as he "pizza and chipped" his way down the steep descent to Geilo on the last day - the same one he had a complete wobbly at on the first day when he took his skis off and stomped down in a huff. Really enjoy Geilo, there's so many different options and you feel like you're getting right into the mountains, yet with relative ease and safety and at this time of year there's hardly a sole out on weekdays.
Going to have to make sure I'm fit for the next trip, as I suspect it might be me that's getting left behind next time.

X-country skiing 5:00:00 [2]

Another cracking day in the mountains. From Ustaoset climbed up onto Ustetind then down to Gronebakken and back to Geilo by same route as on Sat. Weren't sure what weather was going to do, but thankfully there was no wind and the skies had cleared out quite nicely by the time we set off. E kept up a steady pace and was happy enough apart from when he realised we'd done a 3km detour just to get to the top of the mountain :-) Skied virgin tracks and never saw a sole until Gronebakken, even though the traverse section had been freshly pisted. Superb conditions and a real mountain experience.

X-country skiing 2:30:00 [2]

Round Ustedalfjord from centre of Geilo then back to Oen with the shopping, ~13km. Brighter day but cold breeze down near the lake. Tracks newly cut and pisted and in excellent condition. Of all the aches and pains it's only a bruised big toe nail that's really giving any jip.
