Guiding for RTH. Guys pretty tired now, so nice easy pace. From Dinnet round the N side of Loch Kinord then walked up the Vat Burn. Jogged back down the tourist path, then continued round the S side of the loch, including the dragonfly loop. Very pleasant.

Guiding for RTH. From the Girnock road end took the track over to Glen Muick, down past the Linn of Muick, then climbed up onto the Coyles. Back along the ridge before dropping to Loch Ullachie and back along the road for 2km. Good group, nice pace, fine weather, great run.
Sat in the river after.

Part way to Aboyne and back with E for his transition day at the Academy. Wanted to check the situation at Rosehill... delighted to find gates now installed at both ends, together with Aberdeenshire Access rights notices. Happy times :-)

Try again after last night's fail.... 8x3'+1' round Loch Kinord. Didn't feel good, but pace was quicker than the last couple of interval sessions round here. Job done.

Steady round the 2 bridges. Set off on the first interval, but my head wasn't there and my legs felt dead. Shouldn't be any real issues, just not today.

Steady cycle through Lumphanan, up church brae to Tar rd, towards Learney, then down the west side of the hill and back by Pitmurchie. Pleasant and feeling quite rested.

Lots of exercise to and back from the red start to help, but not so much specific pre-race w-u. It was enough.

Orienteering race 47:00 [5]

1st W45L. Feeling pretty chilled about this race. Although I didn't feel like I had to really attack it I still worked pretty hard, but more to the point kept it smooth. Very pleased to nail no 3 and 5 with tight compass. Almost lost it towards the end when concentration slipped, and had a wobble into 10, but overall very happy with the performance. Such a great forest :-)

Orienteering race 26:00 [5]

Forest sprint at Tilquhillie. Legs a bit heavy but not as bad as previous Weds. Brain not really there, but mostly got away with it except at 5, where I found some unmapped rock to the S in the green. I think E found the same stuff. Not sure 5 was sited right, but we were def wrong. Ok otherwise apart from hitting some windblow I should have known about. Good course, but map creaky. Snuck another victory over E - just.

Orienteering race 35:00 [4]

Fun team score on area above C'gorm car park. Was given the "tough" set which meant a slog up to the top of the hill to control pick 6 points, descent off the far side for 3 then a slog back round the bottom of the hill. All technically v straight forward and can't say I really enjoyed it. BA w-u and only 1 hr after lunch.
It was probably good for me :-)

Got dropped at the high point beyond Bridge of Brown to run across to Glenmore Lodge. Nice morning but chilly. Dropped down to pick up the track along the valley towards Dorback Lodge, then on through the Eag Mhor gap to Abernethy forest. Plenty of moorland birds and mountain hare on the first section. Top end of the Forest was absolutely gorgeous and nice single-track to run on too. Got onto bigger tracks further down, then as I was enjoying myself so much I failed to stop to check the map at a junction and gave myself an extra 4km loop via Forest Lodge. Wasn't too worried as making good time in any case. Then it was the main track to Ryvoan and down the pass to GML. Legs a bit sore from the hard track pounding but good otherwise. Saw the reindeer at Ryvoan. Great run and would make a really nice MTB route too.

Home past DAP and right towards Lumph before turning onto wee back road behind peel ring, then up towards x-rds before turning left round top of Dess bowl. Did it this way to try and minimise the headwind on the way up the hill. Still feeling quite tired, but once again so nice to be out on a day like this.

Bits and bobs round Creag Choinnich for schools festival. Walked while hanging controls, but jogged out to Queens Drive to help piggy-back out an ankle sprain, then picked up some controls. Another lovely day. Cuckoo no 3.

Such a nice day it would have been rude not to make the most of it. From Glen Muick up onto Broad Cairn, then off the far end to drop into the valley above Dubh Loch. Back by the path from here down to Loch Muick side. Feeling heavy and slow from the start and it never really improved. Spoilt the day a bit, but still good to get up on the tops again. Only real challenge turned out to be some of the river crossings which were really swollen from snow melt. Also taking care to avoid some dubious looking snow bridges higher up.
Ice bath in the Muick after was good though.

From Potties to Ballogie past RCs, then on up Glen Cat. Return via Marywell. Legs a bit heavy on the hills. Gorgeous day - sat watching the world go by for a while at the top of the glen.
Heard first cuckoo across the valley from home.

Up to the start at Glen Affric

Orienteering race 1:59:00 [4]

Brown course at Glen Affric. 9.1km and meant to be an elite classic. Set out to take it steady and survived fine, but it certainly was physically tough. Made quite a few small errors in the control circles - partly having difficulty adjusting to the 1:15,000 scale, but in some cases just being sloppy with navigation.
Really enjoyed it. Awesome place. Will be hard to beat for event of the year. Shame the cloud was masking the views, but might have taken even longer if it hadn't been.

So tired this morning. Hanging some controls for schools festival at Dess, but can't class it even as a jog.

To start at Tillyfourie and back after. Feeling a bit better after a w-u.

Orienteering race 30:00 [5]

Knew this was going to hurt. Small time losses into 7 and going round to 9. Then from 12-13 it seemed a long long way up between the tracks. Thought I must have gone too high so turned left, but control was still further to right - cost ~40s. And at last control expected dark green to be thick trees where it was gorse, ran too far and had to double back ~30s. Reckoned that was going to be enough to lose me my race with E, but luckily I had snuck back just enough on the climb up to 2 and 14 to claim the day by 13s :-)
Map felt a bit iffy in places.

5 x 4'+2' hills up the Cisten track, with jog part way back between. Didn't feel too bad and could have carried on to do some more - maybe not working hard enough...

Jog to bottom of Cistern track from Aboyne bridge as w-u, then extended w-d back from the top down the Fungle.

Mountain biking 1:20:00 [3]

Glen Tanar. From Braeloine round the back of Baudy Meg. Met the crazy caper en route - he's obviously got bored with nobody to attack since his normal track has been closed off, so he's moved up the hill in search of some more fun. What a beauty. He posed for the camera but let us past without going for us.
Nice ride. Never felt too stressed by the climb effort.
