Mountain biking 1:30:00 [2]

With J and E from home E on DW to Potties and up to Slewdrum, loop round the woods on new track then back home again. Good fresh air. Out for best part of 2:30 including faffing with brakes and chain repair. Going to have to improve our tool kits and skills before the easter hols.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Got dragged up Craigendarroch by E while J out for his run - feeling generally bleurgh and struggling to keep up!

Running hills 28:00 [4]

Walk with E got me going as well as I was ever going to today and was enough to make me grind out a set of hills. 14 x 1'+1' up to Tulloch mast. Breathing felt shallow and difficult and never managed to push myself to level 5 effort.

Running 32:00 [3]

From Ballater to foot of hill, then back from top by the direct route down the power line. Cold day with snow showers on the hill.

DW to Boddomend, Auchenhove, Peel ring, Military rd, Pitmurchie rd and back onto DW. Afternoon ride too soon after lunch, but good to get out and feeling better by the end.

Test running 1st draft W elite course at Loch of Boath. Much more enjoyable than last visit although still came away with a chunk out of my shin. Useful visit - various decisions made and planning should come together now.

Pre Banchory fun run. Not enough.

Running race 22:00 [5]

Banchory fun run. No worse than anticipated (not even a pw!) and a good warm up for the Pudding Shaker.

Orienteering 1:01:00 [4]

Glen o Dee. Map memory with J shadowing me. Felt a bit spaced out at times - brain switched off for the fun run. Wasn't taking much in on the map memory but mostly got away with it.

Walk up Burn o Vat onto Cnoc Dubh with J and E. Picnic on the top then back down the other way, picking up a new bit of track back to the bottom of the burn. Nice walk.

Maroc run up Pressendye from Tarland. First bits of blue sky in days and some great misty / flooded views down into the Howe. Feeling good in bits, less so at times, but still strong at the end. Decent turnout and really enjoyable.

With J and E from Cambus bridge along railway to the forest, round a big loop and back the same way. Wet but not torrential and good to get some fresh air.

Morven Night run. Wasn't sure what to expect conditions wise. Wasn't at all cold at the bottom, just light drizzle, but the wind got up half way up and conditions at the top were well arctic. Mostly ok going underfoot with icebugs on but wouldn't have been so much fun without dobs. Good turnout given the crappy weather and forecast.

Feeling especially tired from last nights intervals - not used to running on roads at the mo. Warm up helped a bit at least.

Orienteering race 56:00 [4]

DNC at S Kirkhill. Great course - most interesting I've ever done there - and lots of controls meant you couldn't just run to the reflector. Started well, but lost focus later and made a bad mistake at no 8. Bounced off the wrong control a few times - lacking in confidence to ignore them. Lucky with the weather again.

10x2'+1' round Rhunahaven rd loop - almost like the good old days. Except that the under 21s out numbered the seniors - great. Going ok but faded a bit on the last few.

From home through woods to cow shit alley, military rd, Lumphanan, golf course, back across fields, military rd, bullevard and back. Feeling a bit tired but running steady and a decent effort. A bit wet underfoot and a few too many fence crossings, otherwise nice. At least the ice is gone.

Grim day and most places still iced up. Have had a bit of a cold for a couple of days so wasn't sure what to do. Went for a warm-up jog round the woods and felt ok so did some hills - but nothing too serious.

2 sets of 6 x 1'+1' from the bridge to the top of the hill, by DW then up behind crocodile hut. Jog back down to the bridge between sets.

Orienteering race 1:02:00 [4]

DNC at Birsemore. Almost didn't do this after a day in Embra but thanks to Drew for accommodating my late start and convincing me it would be worth it - it was. Loved it. Made a few wee mistakes in the circle but generally o'ing nicely and the controls were popping up. This one will be hard to beat.

Everything still iced up in Aboyne, so DR plumped for a headtorch run through the woods to the golf course. Even the golf course was going to be dodgy for any speed work so just had a steady group run in the end. Really enjoyed it and felt I was running relaxed in my ice bugs.

Maroc run from bridge of Bogendreip on circular route through Glen Dye. Mix of terrain and snowy paths and tough going throughout. Cut short on the planned route as we were going to be long enough and all feeling it hard work. Good to get out with company on a dreich morning and felt better running today.

Headed out towards Mortlich with J, but had no oomph and wasn't enjoying it so decided to turn back. Been low on energy this week - crash after last week? poor fuel / hydration? general stress? or just a bit of all three... Hopefully feel up for tomorrow morning's Maroc run if I chill out today.

Orienteering race 1:17:00 [4]

DNC at Balmedie. Utterly crap! Not sure quite what was going wrong but really lacking in confidence in the circle, then doing a headless chicken and relocating to find the controls 2nd or 3rd time around. Maybe didn't get into the 1:5,000 scale and also finding too many bits of the map which have really changed.
About sums the day up. Too many hours spent on the roads not going anywhere fast.

Running hills 24:00 [5]

12 x 1' + 1' on the track up Cairn Daimh through the forest. Snow and ice underfoot so harder work than would normally be. Good group session with plenty of people to keep each other working.

Running 51:00 [3]

From Wild Farm cottage out the track to the start of hill reps. From the end of reps up onto the summit, then back down through the fields. Great views and another cracking run.
Rounded off with hot tub, sauna and plunge pool for the legs. Think we'll be going back there again sometime.

Long run at Ben Newe with Maroc TS. First snowy run of the winter and some cracking views - shame the camera had got left at home. Good run and good company.

Jog out along the track from Wild Farm cottage

Drills 20:00 [3]

Mix of running drills and mini hurdles.
Followed by hot tub, plunge pool and sauna. Perfect.
