Forgot to stretch last night and suffering for it today. Left hamstring particulraly sore - suspect I pulled it a bit in the sprinty stuff last night. Jogged out to the woods and had a bit of a stretch which helped loosen it off a bit, but still not great. Just did a short lap of the woods.

Didn't sound too bad a session but found it really hard in practice. I guess it was more anaerobic than I'm used to at the moment and I wasn't recovering at all well betwen reps. Good for me I'm sure.

Wild day. Really not feeling up for anything after a short walk with E, but J persuaded me. Out along the dirt road above San Casciano almost to the Radicofoni road. Met before the junction by J as he reckoned I wouldn't enjoy the last few 100m along the spur where even the car was bouncing around. Never really perked up or appreciated the scenery as I should.

From the house up to Sarteano by the old mills, then out up the Castiglioncello del Trinro road as far as the track onto the hill, then on up to Petraporciana. ~65' of steady climb - never feeling brilliant but kept moving. Forgotten how nice the track up the spur of the hill is, through oak wood etc. Really enjoyed the climb.

Back in Italia. Not inspired to do anything too serious. Steady plod with J and E out to the road, down and back via porcupine alley.

Failed to get up for my early morning run, so snuck out at lunchtime instead. Back round a similar loop to yesterday in the day light - significantly less interesting when you could see. Everything just a bit too manicured for my liking. Not feeling great.

Early morning run in Delft. Headed out canal sides to a park area but as it was still dark had to stick to the lit trails. Lost the lights part way round but dawn was coming enough to get by. Really pleasant run. 7/10 for city centre running in Delft.

Orienteering race 48:00 [5]

Rome city race. Great experience if a bit crazy with traffic and pedestrian hazards. A few fiddly bits that were tricky to read at 1:7500 but only major boo-boo was when I came out onto the via fori imperiale and lost track of scale completely. Lost 5 mins panicking in completely the wrong place!
Reckon this could turn into another Venice in a few years if they want it to.

Orienteering 35:00 [5]

Citta di Viterbo street race. Good fun. No real tricks and less interesting than some old towns, but great to take part. 4' down on 1st W open. Could feel the hard surfaces in my feet by the end. So much busier down here compared with Sarteano area - just too close to Rome.

Starts were 9' late, so some nervous hanging around trying to work out what was going on, in amongst lots of school kids having a fag before the race! Wouldn't be Italy without these touches.

Mountain biking 2:00:00 [2]

From the Lago di Chiusi to Voliano and back the same way along the Sentiero di Bonifica. Really enjoyable relaxed day out. Moving well on the bikes, but lots of breaks. Probably 3h or so riding and ~32km. Lovely day and getting hotter.
Reckon next year we have to go for the Chiusi - Arezzo full monty.

From la Marniana out past the paper mill to the bottom of track I found yesterday. From the rocca down into village at the end.

Fab walk on Monte Cetona by a new route from Fonte Vetriana. 3 hours or so.

From house across to N side of road and a loop round the dirt tracks. Left J and E to explore one heading up the hill which eventually took me up to Sarteano by a new route.back by track down past old mills and paper mill. Felt better for the exercise.

Long run from above Cortona north on the route 50. 10' climb to the first top then lots of descent to a road crossing. Then steady climb to the end point. Second half through natural shrub and Heath and really pleasant scenery. Discovered camera not working after yesterday's soaking :-(

MB epic on Monte Amiata. Threatening showers turned into continuous soaking and maps and tracks did their usual Italian tricks on us. One day I'll get this place cracked. Love it!

Running hills 25:00 [5]

THE DW hill - bridge to summit x 3 with jog back between. Times were 5:25, 5:25 and 5:15 with 5:00 between reps. Had to test this out sometime and today was not a day for going any further afield. Bxxxxxd of a hill with sustained steep climb over the bottom half. Worked especially hard on the last one but thought it might not be any quicker as my legs had jellied.

Short loop of the DW and woods as a w-u, then along the track for a few minutes at the end. Crappiest day in a good long while and don't remember when I last got that wet on a run.

Lead by AS. Standard set + 6 x mini hurdles.

On the green. 5' tempo, 10 x 1'+1', 5' tempo. Good crowd and got dragged along faster than sensible. V tired by the end.

Amazing day - shame to be stuck inside on a 1st Aid course for most of it. Went up to Linn of Quoich after the course finished and had a wee jog up the west side, then waded the stream and jogged back down the other side. Really must come up here more often.

Mountain biking 40:00 [2]

From bottom of big Birse track, up the hill then followed the Old Church Rd back down to Gooch's and back along road. Really nice ride after E stopped wingeing about the hill.

Running 1:37:00 [3]

Up the track again and on up to Carnferg, down the back side, back down Fungle to Guard, left and up to mast, down to race route, back to Fungle and along loch side to Birse road. Going ok up the hill but tired and hungry by the end.

Mountain biking 33:00 [3]

Finished last of my energy bar and retrieved bike from where J had strategically dumped it for me and cycled home. Fell in the trench pool again when I realised I didn't have the strength to throw my bike over. Sting in the tail was the 5' vertical climb from the new bridge to home. Ouch!
So much for an afternoon of gardening....

17 x 1'+1' up onto Meikle Tap with J. Felt surprisingly GOOD once I got going - legs strong and only felt aerobic limited. Tried to hold J on a few after he caught me.

Running 33:00 [3]

Extended warm-up round the bottom, then jog back by the direct route from the top. Saw a record 5 other people on the hill.

Maroc session. Another good turn out and enjoyed by all.
