Seemed to have enough helpers, so took advantage to get out for a run. Good training even though I knew the control sites and course strung together well - good planning job E!
Been a lot of work the last few weeks, but worth it for the buzz at events like this, with families out for the day loving everything about O. A glimpse of the future of Maroc hopefully.

Culardoch with J from Aberarder. Felt very sluggish for the first 45' or so, but then started to feel quite good and was still going strong enough by the finish. One hail shower but all the dark clouds to the north and south seemed to bypass us. Good run.

Guiding for RTH (Fredric from France). From Keiloch cp east to Glen Fearder and Auchtavan then N and W to join big track off Culardoch and back round Meall Gorm / Craig Leek. A bit overcast but stayed dry. Good company and a nice steady pace. Legs felt a bit heavy on the hills, but fine otherwise.

Tillyfourie forest sprint. Mostly fine, but fumbled in the circle a couple of times, especially at the boulder at 11 - something distinctly odd with the map in this bit. Caught DK at the second last control and in my haste to run away from him did a 180. OMG.

Feeling exhausted this morning so not sure quite what to do. Did an extended w-u lap of the woods and felt fine, so continued on to do some hills. Time includes jog back between sets and short w-d.

3 x sets of 4x1'+1' up the hill from Dess bridge to high point of DW. Jog back down between sets. Legs feeling pretty good. Pushed last set and got a bit further.

Active recovery. Taping sites at Dinnet Muir walking most of it, just a bit of jogging on the paths etc. Lovely afternoon. Out for 2h.

From TofEss out the Firmounth through GT to high point, then left across the bog and round to Fungle. Back over Carnferg then Fungle to the Guard and return by track to ToE. Wouldn't have managed this if it hadn't been such a gorgeous morning. Sun, blue skies, frogs, thrushes, juniper, granny pines, hare and skylarks... what's not to like.

First road bike of the year and it was in shorts :-) Aboyne - Dinnet - Ordie - towards Tarland then back to Aboyne. Cruisey pace no rush. Sore bum.

Checking out western end of Linn of Dee map for permanent course. Not a great day but at least the snow's gone now.

From Linn of Quoich headed straight up spur onto the hill to the west. Picked up bits of old 4x4 track on the climb and other bits through heather. Cloud well down on the tops and glad of compass although I didn't have a map. Headed generally west, picking up cairns on the high points (Creag Bhalg), until I started dropping. Then found a 4x4 track to take me nicely across to the track across the spur used on run the 3D glens. Down to the road and back along to car.
Good.

Time to get back to some more structured training. 5 x 4'+2' on the railway. Still stuffed up in the head but breathing ok and legs felt fine. Distance not great but that's not important.

With J, MG and JG from Passo Falzarego up some of the ski runs. Perfect place to train at this point in the season with ski lifts closed but runs still nicely pisted. Found some old military tunnels at the top of one run then followed another to its start point at a lift up from the other side (high point of 2380m). Managed to trigger an alarm and set the lift off moving - oops. Great fun descent using the softer edge of the piste on the steeper sections. Legs not feeling too bad but slight head cold.

Short walk and ladder climb up a rock pillar at Sass de Rocia, with all the crew. Fun!

Ski Touring 2:00:00 [3] 9.0 km (13:20 / km) +550m 10:13 / km

Skimo adventure with EG. From near Castillo below Passo Falzarego. Plan was for an out and back ascent of Pico Setsas, but we inadvertently ended up heading in a different direction after following ski trails from the start point rather than reading the map. Eventually worked out what had happened when we got the compass out and turned the map through 90 deg - oops. Managed to turn it into a circular route and had lunch in a shelter below Pico Setsas, but were on the wrong side to reach the summit. First part of descent was cheezy grinningly awesome, through soft snow on smooth slopes. Then it got a bit crappy trying to find a route back down through the trees, but eventually hit the outbound path again.
Brilliant. Out of my comfort zone again at times but all good learning. Out for 3.5h or so.

Walk from Cencenighe up Piz Croce. Starting from 700m and largely snow free - good choice for the time of year. Steep ascent from the get go which niggled a bit on the heel bruising but nothing too bad. Last scramble to the summit was a bit of fun, up super steep slippy grass using hands and knees. Found a better line for the descent. Another gorgeous blue sky day. 3 h moving time.

Sella Ronda. Awesome day. Well out of my comfort zone at times, but lived to tell the tale. Blue skies, fantastic snow, mountain views to die for, and fab company.
Quads totally trashed and some good bruising on my heel from my only real wipeout.
60km and 4500m total distance and elevation (with lifts). Out for ~6h total.

Morning wandering the streets of Venice getting temporarily mislaid. Managed to download a copy of the O map and went for a leg loosener from the apartment in the afternoon. Much easier to find way around with a proper map. Out to the waterfront and then along the promenade, and back by a different route. V low intensity. Lots of residual niggles from the w/e so good to take a few easy days.

To the car park and back twice after mislaying my shoes. Just as well I realised when I did. Got a decent w-u and managed not to get too stressed by it. Still don’t know where they got to

Orienteering race 52:00 [5] 8.2 km (6:20 / km) +150m 5:49 / km

JK long Beaudesert. Still managed to mess up no 1, but only 30” this time. After that missed a couple of minutes on the pits, but otherwise held things together. Fought hard all the way and pleased with forward planning etc. 1st on the day to take the overall W50 title.
Ming forest but good competition.
