With J on the DW flattish stretch along towards Kinker. 5x2'+1'. 1 and 3 downhill, others up. 2,3 and 4 were good. Died on 5

A93 to B'demend then over to Lumphanan bowl and big loop round the high road. Think this was a first and loved it. Great views down to the misty river valley, reminiscent of autumn in Tuscany.
Good start to the week.

Wee run round Creag Choinnich, out by the Lion's face and back by the Cromlins. Had spent all day on 1st aid course and didn't really feel like it, but was better for the exercise. Disappointed to find at least 2 (and probably lots more) MOBO QR codes have already vanished from the permanent markers.

Guiding for RTH at Linn of Quoich. Up the Quoich then over to Glen Derry by the Clais Fhearnaig (cp14), back by high track above Mar Lodge, and through the estate. Very easy pace with nobody trying to push it. Feeling a bit megh before we set off and probably could have done with working a bit harder to get myself going. Still it was a lovely afternoon, nice light on the hills and everyone enjoyed it.

On the railway. Set out to do 5x4'+2', but heart wasn't really in it and feeling sluggish, so settled for 4 at a tempo pace. Think I was dehydrated too - about time I got the hang of this drinking lark. Rest tomorrow.

Faffy morning. Checking out W end of Lady Wood for after-school club. Then along to Bell Wood to slacken off the wires on the poc. False start when I realised I'd forgotten the pliers, then took ages to do not very much.

From Keiloch cp, a-c round Craig Leek, up onto the top from the north, drop off to the west and back. A few niggles but they seemed to settle down ok. Got a bit dreich latterly.

Relaxed chatty ride with RH. Home - P'murch - Lumph - ch brae to TRd - Learney - T'phins. Stop for a drink and then home over the high road to Kinker. Lovely afternoon and good company.

Recovery jog with J from the tennis club through castle grounds to golf course, round the loch and straight back.

Last real chance to get some good miles in the legs before GCM. From Dinnet over the hill to Glen Tanar, up to HWH and beyond, then turned right over the hill back towards Deeside. Brief diversion to the Rocking Stone (cp 99) then down to cross the river at Cambus bridge and back by the railway. Buzzing at the start (combination of caffeine and a good meeting) and felt like I flew over the first hill. Kept going steady throughout and pleased with pace back along the railway at the end. Tick.

From bottom of Glen Muick up to the road end at the LM cp, then back the same way with a wee detour via B'hall. Lovely ride - steady push on the way up (36') then a whizz back down.

DAP - Lumph - brae past church up to T Rd, T'veen, high road to S'dwell and back by P'murchie. Going ok and working the hills fairly hard. QOM on ch brae and pb on P'chie.

Glen Tanar 2 bridges. 8 x 2'+1'. Felt good once I got into it. Holding JG more or less and ahead on the last couple.

Checking controls at Scolty. Wet. Really not much enjoyable about it. Got to a couple of sites ahead of the planner, so cut short and will finish in the morning.

First long run with J in a long time. From Loch Muick cp up tourist route to col below the ladder, drop to Lochnagar loch outlet (cp 100) then up the NE ridge to the summit. Strong wind turned into vicious gusting gale on the climb from the loch, almost taking us off our feet and blowing us uphill onto rocks. V glad of full waterproof (as well as windproof running top) and gloves. All a bit exciting for a while. Decided to return by Glas Allt to drop out of the wind asap. Really struggling on the climb today - just no energy in my legs to work - but downhill felt ok.
Never underestimate Lochnagar. I've had too many "interesting" times up there.

Home - Pitmurchie - T'phins golf club - high rd to Glassel - Craiglash and home. Reverse of route I did previously and seemed much easier going this way round - hills are more gradual. My fave cycle route at the mo.

Jog round the castle woods hanging kites for ASC. Great wee area for beginners with lots of paths.

Legs merely feeling sore today. Easy road bike as part of the recovery plan. Home to Potties, SD Rd to Aboyne and back by A93. Felt ok on the bike. Nice.

Orienteering race 1:09:00 [5] 9.1 km (7:35 / km)

SOL Loch Vaa short brown. Knew this would hurt and doubt I would have done it if it hadn't been somewhere so nice. Surprised myself at how well I did manage to run. Couple of mistakes of ~2'; 2 (drifted to side of clearing to south) and 11 (got into re-entrant to south) but otherwise, navigating nicely. Got into a bit of a train with faster runners, which made me push on despite the pain. Loved it!

Jog out the road to the start of the Ben track and back, with SP and KH

Hill Race race 2:28:03 [5] 14.0 km (10:35 / km) +1315m 7:12 / km

Ben Nevis hill race. First time for the race and first time up the Ben. Perfect conditions - sunny but cool and even clear on top. Awesome view. I did make a point of looking.
Really happy with the climb. Kept going steady and feeling stronger than most around me on the top 1/3. Early twinges of calf cramp had me worried, but never came to anything. Top in 1:33
The descent was brutal. Didn't enjoy the main steep section off the summit plateau as far as the stream crossing and lost a lot of places here. Picked up a few after that, once we got back onto the track and felt good running the bottom section, although legs were completely jellied. Faded a bit in the last 5' or so but near enough to hang in by then.
So pleased to have done this race and another Munro bagged too. Gonna feel this for a few days though.

Saving the legs for the w/e, so an easy run out on the railway while J doing some intervals.
Was feeling tired after poor night's sleep and p****d off after several s****y e-mails yesterday. Great session at after-school club cheered me up no end. So nice to see lots of happy kids running around. Effort appreciated by some at least.

DR 2 bridges steady with J and E on bike. Feeling a bit spaced out, but tripping along at an ok pace. A few surges when JE caught us at the end of their reps.
