Physio verdict - damage to various ankle tendons, ligaments and achilles, but all minor to moderate, so fingers crossed recovery should be reasonably swift.

Still very stiff, especially left quad.

Orienteering 5:24:00 [4]

HMM Day 2 C class. A much easier course today on the north side of the road back to Glenfinnan - same start as for LAMM 2008. Much more runnable than day 1 and much less up / down over ridges. Went really well until descending off the hill from the 2nd last control when I tripped and somehow went badly over my left ankle (opposite one from previous sprain). Big crunch and I knew I was in trouble. Took a long time to get down from there with lots of yelping every time I caught my foot or slipped a bit, but somehow made it down and back along the track. Really frustrated and disappointed that I'd let Marie down right at the end, but much to our surprise we'd held onto our overnight 3rd spot. Glorious day with lots of blue sky and great views.
4 weeks to recover before the Scottish / British and 7 until Jukola. Want to focus on getting it sorted properly.

Orienteering 6:33:00 [4]

HMM Day 1 C class with Marie in Moidart. Good steady race. Really tough going and virtually no running. Some very interesting navigation through the cloud on leg 1-2, sitting on my compass the whole way. Cloud cleared out after a couple of hours to give great weather and some fantastic views out over Eigg and Rhum as well as the mountain. Lovely ridge run in the middle too.
Really surprised to be so far up the field (3rd overnight)- just shows if you keep going in the right direction. A tough C course. Hope Marie doesn't hate me too much for not letting her stop for a rest;-))

JK relays Pwll du, MAH team with EMc and MR. Harder to get myself up for this with tired legs and stomach not feeling great overnight. Took it steady and cruised round without any major errors.

Orienteering 49:00 [5]

JK day 3 Llangnydyr. Raced this one even better with no real mistakes to speak of. Thoroughly enjoyed the feeling of control and flow throughout the race. 1.5' down on JP in 2nd but can't complain. Need to be able to run faster to get the win. Has been a while since I've managed 7.5'/km in a race.
2nd overall and happy with that.

JK day 2 Merthyr Common. Good race. Really pleased with my navigation, map contact etc. Just didn't feel I could run hard enough. 2 mistakes - ~30" on 5 and 1.5' on 12, but pretty happy when I finished. 1.5' down in 3rd.

Orienteering race 14:00 [5]

JK sprint, Swansea Uni. Ran well for most of it and attacked hard, but 2 stupid mistakes worth ~40s, so very surprised to take the win.
Proud to finish to the announcement of E leading M10 by almost 2'.

Glenlivet red route with E. Great ride and really impressed with E's endurance and bike skills. Was very windy out of the forest and hard to keep the bike upright at times, especially going round the bends. Woosed a few of the rock steps, but most of the route is just a nice long blue. Out for 2:15
V tired by the end. Need to start getting some recovery before the JK.

Took advantage of J's incapacity to do a one way ride with E. Started from auld brig o Dee, up the high track and over the shoulder to HRH summerhouse, green bridge, main track to Connaught, cut up to top track, Ripe Hill loop, then a meander back to Easter Balmoral by some single track past several of the Cairns. Great route. Just a bit of wingeing on the climbs, but otherwise enjoyed by us both.

Orienteering race 23:00 [5]

Tollohill sprint. Nice wee course and good race practice, highlighting a few things that need ironing out. No 1 again - need to take time to check more carefully - after overshooting the path end. No 2 - just need to be more confident to keep moving when you can't see it, but know you're right. And no 14 - legging it for the last control and doing a major banana, worth 30'+, that's how to throw a race.

Circuit of Loch Muick with DR. Lovely evening for a lovely run. So rare that I actually just run round the loch - has usually had some big hills attached to it. Felt like a brisk pace all the way, 2nd half with SR trying not to hold her back too much.

Hard to make myself do this - just wanted to get into a hot bath. And then found that there wasn't any hot water left ;-(

Short technical training at Glen Davan. Focus on bearings. Seemed to find it difficult to keep moving well and stay in touch with the map, but going ok when I slowed down a bit. Good to get a bit more terrain work for the foot too.

6 x 2' + 1' round the 2 bridges, then 6 x 1' + 1' up the hill. Going steady - not great - but lasting the session ok.

To start of intervals, between sets and back from the top of the hill via the mill pond. Lovely evening.

Almost skipped this - managed to make myself do a reduced set.

Orienteering race 1:04:00 [5]

Sol Short Brown at Faskally.
Some learning points:
1. Think about the map scale from the start - hadn't adjusted to it by the time I went in to no 1
2. Hold back that little bit on the first leg
3. If the control code doesn't match what's in your head, re-check the map before running off in a panic (no 11)
Some positive things:
1. Felt ok running despite efforts of the last couple of days
2. Foot held up fine. Not committing to some of the rougher bits, but that's ok.
3. Well on top of the navigation for most of the time, and reading descriptions etc.

With E, along DW to Boddomend, road over hill to Lumph bowl and Lumph crossroads, peel ring then back over military rd, Bullevard, fields and woods. In a grump with each other when we set off, but a really nice ride in the end.

Needed to go somewhere different for a bit of inspiration this morning, so headed up to Balmoral to do a bit of cairn bagging. From Easter Balmoral: Helena, failed to find Louise, Purchase, Leopold, Louise (after consulting map on the paths), Arthur, Alice (after re-locating from a navo booboo), Princess Royal, Connachat Memorial, Ripe Hill summit, Albert and Beatrice. Bit of fun and it gave a good mix of track, path and terrain. Out for just over 3h, but a fair bit of faffing and photos during the run.
Turned out I headed in the right direction, as was pretty much dry there but had been v wet at home.

DR back in Glen T. 13 x 1' + 1' up the diagonal track. Didn't completely kill myself, seeing it was the first one in a while.
Good crowd taking part, including a few new faces to me.
