Along the cycle track to Monsal Dale, then a loop up onto the hill on the far side and back along the river, with Nicola M. Bit squally at start but good run.

Early morning run from Thornbridge outdoor centre along the Monsal Way. Was still dark and took a bit to find the track until I realised that the bridges weren't over acstream but aN old railway. Got to a tunnel entrance and was a bit spooked so went up and over to Monsal Dale. Went a little way along the stream and then made my way back to the viaduct and returned through the tunnel. Really nice spot. Just about got going by the end.

4 x 3' + 3' hills on a rough track. Didn't try to keep up with any of the youngsters!

Running warm up/down 31:00 [2]

Jog from centre to start of hills and back again after. A but unpleasant by the end.

DNC round 1 at Birsemore. Compass was working today and controls just kept popping up in the right place. Only real mistake was stopping short on 13 before the hill to S of control (~2mins). Otherwise just missed no 10 by ~10m, and got stuck in lots of grot on the way into 7. Fun!

Running race (x-country) 22:16 [5]

Knockburn loch x-c - 3 mile race.
Almost bottled this after another rubbish nights sleep and feeling lousy first thing. After jogging round E's course with him decided there wasn't too much wrong with me. Took the race steady and it went ok. Stomach knotted up by end of first lap, but gained a few places on the second lap, and picked off an FV near the finish. 20s or so behind JK. Happy.

Running 1:50:00 [2]

Long run with J. Parked in Strathdon at the end of the Edinglassie road. Ran out by the track along Glen Ernan, up ontp Geal Charn, along to Carn Mor and back down the spur to Lonach Hill.
Have logged this as level 2 as legs were shagged from the word go and struggled the whole way - walking all of the hills. Despite this, enjoyed the route- all new ground to me and some surprisingly interesting bits by Strathdon standards. Will do it again sometime when I feel a bit brighter.
Going to have to review my training plan, as these long runs aren't working out well on Fridays at the mo. Maybe need to push them back to Sat or Sun, especially with night O starting up.

Orienteering 50:00 [3]

Night O training at Dess. Had a false start when my head torch died on the way to no 1. So came back, Peter leant me his spare battery and set off again. This one lasted to no 6 or so before it too turned into a candle and I completed the course on 2 candle power with my back-up torch on too. So was really a bit of a plod round the forest. Faffed a lot on no 3 and wobbled on 8, but otherwise just moving slowly. Hopefully I'll have got my equipment problems out of the way for the season if I get a new battery ordered.

On the green with DR. 2 x short, 4 x long, 2 x short. Short ~1:05-1:10 Long ~2:15-2:30. ~1 min between long, and longer jog back between short.
Brain dead from work and expected to feel rubbish, but was mostly ok.

With J from Ripon centre followed the Skell upstream and did a tracky loop which sort of worked except for a wee bit in the middle. Not feeling very bright though.

River run from Ripon. Out on the canal all the way to junction with the Ure, back along the Ure and then up the Skell back into the town. Pleasant enough but legs felt a but tired. Lovely day.

Orienteering race 1:53:00 [4]

Cracking autumn day, so a black course at Inver it was. Took it steady and loved it - a real mountain O experience, with a few scary traverses / descents and some monster heather in between some nicer more runnable bits. A few tricky control sites too. Died a bit on the last loop and made a few wee errors, but really chuffed to be feeling still ok towards the end, and no cramping issues (platypus and jbs must have helped).

Took the bus up with E, so used the first leg of the course as my warm-up. Jog back from the finish as warm-down.

With J from near Torphins out to Tarland road, W to high point, down military road to Lumphanan (very soggy and fell off) then back to Torohins. Disappointed to find tea shop shut at Lumphanan but stopped at R and G in Torphins instead.
Nice day for a ride.

With J from Cambus along to Tullich and up towards the mast, then out on track N towards foot of Morven and back by track down the Crannoch Burn. Upper legs felt tired from the outset. Never really felt comfortable and had to dig in from way too early. Funny - I've never had a very good experience of that bit below Morven. Might have helped if we'd taken some food.
Good to get a long one in though.
