Orienteering 30:00 [4]

Maroc training at Shooting Green. Control pick course. Started a bit unfocussed and was sloppy in to 3 and 4, but then got into it a bit better and ran hard and fairly clean over the rest.

Stretching 15:00 [1]

Tuesday Apr 27, 2010 #

Note

Field work in the Allt a Mharcaidh. 3h or so of hill-walking. Went to the top of Geal Charn just above the top monitoring site. Thought it might be a Prominent Peak, but not enough drop to the north.

Monday Apr 26, 2010 #

Pilates 1:00:00 [1]

Good session on the rollers again

Orienteering 1:25:00 [3]

Went to check out the old Feughside map. Parked at Wester Clune and ran E along the track, then through the fields to the forest. Forest is fantastic now - white and mostly runnable. Plenty of detail and some lovely bits of old pine forest too. Can't believe we've not used it for 12 years or updated the map. Ran back through the fields to the N then had a reccy of the area off the W edge of the map. Bit small but could be worth mapping to use with the open W end of the Feughside map.
Nice run and legs feeling pretty good.

Stretching 15:00 [1]

Note

SOA Coaching conference all day

Running 1:35:00 [3]

Much needed break from the computer this morning. Parked by the Bucket Mill at Finzean, ran out along the S side of the Feugh, then up over Peter's Hill and back down the other side to Wester Clune. Snowing steadily most of the way up the hill. Didn't push it. Prominent peak no 3.

Note

This week (and the last few in general) has been crackers work wise. Hoping that the worst is now over as it's not doing me any good.

Running 32:00 [3]

Only time for a quickie round H'head

Wednesday Apr 21, 2010 #

Running 40:00 [3]

Dess Woods. Set out to do some hill reps, but realised on the first one that there was nothing in the tank, so went for a steady run out to the fields, down towards Kinker, then back up to the WRs. Felt better for it.

Stretching 15:00 [1]

Tuesday Apr 20, 2010 #

Running 38:00 [3]

Lap of Kingshill. Had planned to do some intervals, but didn't have the mental strength for it, so broke a rule and put them off until tomorrow.

Monday Apr 19, 2010 #

Note
(rest day)

Feeling a bit iffy, so decided a day off would be sensible

Sunday Apr 18, 2010 #

Orienteering 1:30:00 [2]

Checking tags at Balmedie for next months event. Was out for 2 1/2 hours in total. Lots of faffing, at the beginning especially, and struggling to find the planner's microscopic yellow tags (not the best colour in sand dunes). Left my O shoes at home and had to ran in my emergency pair that I keep in the boot of the car. Despite slashing the heels before I started, they were still attacking me, so ran the last half hour in my socks (actually quite enjoyable).

Running 40:00 [3]

Hilly route round Dess woods with ~40% in terrain. Up to the quarry pond 3 times - from the waterfall, above Ian's, and the old 3' hill route from the bottom track. Such nice running at the mo with the bracken flattened.

Friday Apr 16, 2010 #

Running 1:13:00 [3]

Hill of Fare from Raemoir gates. Up the main track onto the hill. Decided I didn't fancy a plod round the top so turned left down the hill side from the shooting hut and ran through terrain diagonally down the hill until I picked up a much lower track. Then a steady climb back up this to rejoin the outward route.

Road cycling 40:00 [2]

Down to Potties and back after a slap up meal and a large glass of red wine - oops. Much needed R+R after another tough day.

Note

Pretty much decided not to travel down for the British middle champs. Shame, but 10 hours of driving for a half hour race isn't what I need this weekend.

Wednesday Apr 14, 2010 #

Note
(rest day)

No time and no harm in a day off

Tuesday Apr 13, 2010 #

Running intervals 24:00 [5]

12 x 1' + 1' intervals on tracks in H'head. Not feeling great, but better than going for a plod. Much chillier today.

Running 22:00 [3]

To and from H'head.

Stretching 15:00 [1]

Monday Apr 12, 2010 #

Road cycling 20:00 [3]

Short spin on the road bike out towards Lumphanan and back again. Legs tired and bum still sore from Sat.

Road cycling 20:00 [3]

Picked up E from school. Hard work on the way back up the hill.

Pilates 1:00:00 [2]

Lots of fun on the new rollers

Sunday Apr 11, 2010 #

Running 1:20:00 [3]

From home to Mortlich along railway and direct ascent. Felt ok once I got going and just managed to run all of the hill with a bit of grit and determination. Came back the same way initially but diverted to the top of Low Hill. Then headed cross country through fields to pick up the track behind the railway cottages.
Another magic summer's day. Lots of people out and about and lizards sunbathing on the top of the hill.

Strength and conditioning 25:00 [2]

Another 3 x 7' barrows of manure

Stretching 15:00 [1]

Saturday Apr 10, 2010 #

Mountain biking 1:20:00 [2]

With J and E on tag-along. From Tower of Ess, up the left side of the glen, over the two bridges and on to Half-way Hut, then back down the other side. Lots of amorous toads in the Faerlie Loch and all over the track. Hope we didn't squash too many.
Another lovely spring day.

Friday Apr 9, 2010 #

Running 2:00:00 [3]

From Cambus Bridge. Up onto Cnoc Dubh (22'), down through Cambus, out towards Tullich, across Tullich Burn to mast track and Ballater (80'). Had planned to cross the river and head back along the S side, but was slower than anticpated so headed back along Deeside Way instead. Diverted to the Needle and then the river bank.
Lovely spring day and a really enjoyable run.

Running 25:00 [3]

Hazlehead. Lovely sunny day and a much needed break from the computer. Did a few short reps to get the legs moving faster.

Running intervals 10:00 [5]

10 x 30" + 30" sprints.
8 PM

Orienteering 25:00 [3]

Picked up some of the markers after training at Dess. Good turnout and a fine evening.

Tuesday Apr 6, 2010 #

Note
(rest day)

Feeling washed out. Nothing feels especially sore, just lacking in energy. Long drive home yesterday.

Monday Apr 5, 2010 #

Orienteering race 39:00 [4]

JK relays at Braunton Burrows. Ran W Premier with Kirsty and Denise. Messed up no 1 and made another 2 min mistake later. Otherwise really enjoyed it, especially as I could read the contour detail. Didn't have any real motivation to race on tired legs.
Best part of the day was cheering for our winning Mini Relay team.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2]

Orienteering race 1:35:00 [5]

JK Day 3 Braunton Burrows
Disastrous start, losing ~ 6 mins at no 1 and 4 at no 2. Not clean to 3 or 4 either. After that settled in ok. Main problem was that I couldn't extract any detail from the map and lost confidence in the circle (although had gone in too soon for no 1). Once I got used to the rough O it worked better. Enjoyed the terrain and course later on but would have been even more fun on a 1:10 map. Fantastic area.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Orienteering race 36:00 [5]

JK middle distance at Cooksworthy. Ran well. Only a couple of tiny wobbles. Caught Kirsten S half way which was good. Legs didn't feel too bad. Hamstring just slightly tweaky but not a problem. Finished 17th W21E.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Stretching 15:00 [1]

Orienteering race 18:50 [5]

JK sprint at Bicton. Ran pretty steady and clean apart from 13 - missed best route then ran out of 13 in the wrong direction and got quite confused. Finished 20th W21E

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2]

Stretching 15:00 [1]

Tweaked left hamstring during race. Had a good stretch - not great but hopefully will hold up ok.
