Orienteering 2:00:00 [3] **
Yorkshire Squad training at Esholt woods (AIRE)
Not really sure how far I ran. It was quite a hilly area, good for selection races next year! The navigation was quite easy in most places but there were sections of rocky areas that were a bit more complex and because of the hills it was good for route choice.
Did a map memory course which was good to help me stop wasting time by constantly looking at my map. Some of the rocks were a bit dodgely mapped though, with boulders being marked as crags and most being under moss and bracken.
Then I did a control pick and used it for practising my compass work.
Ran a route choice course with Josh and Ben, where we ran the routes we would in a race and then talked about what worked well and why. Spent the first part being shouted at by Josh for not running fast enough and for walking up an insanely steep hill. As if anyone would run up it! So i got to have a head start after that and Josh fell down a hill so i won the leg :) ha serves him right. Was quite interesting though seeing the different ways we would find a control. I learnt that sometimes straight is the best route and to just run harder i guess. "Boy orienteering" as we learnt at uppsala!
Then got to do a star relay :) Was in a team with Jess and Joe and had the very cool rainbow bumblebee. I think we came 3rd, but was good to have some pressure in a fast paced situations.
