Running 1:48:00 [2] 18.3 km (5:54 / km) +310m 5:26 / km

Hambleden Valley with Ruth - really nice. Felt like I could have just kept on running forever :)

S&C (pilates) 1:00:00 [1]

Baby steps but I can definitely use my core muscles when I really think about it now. Still a long way to go until they work properly when running though :P A lot of hip dropping & torso rotating still going on, rather than everything going in a forwards direction, which is obviously super inefficient. I'll get there one day...maybe!

Spin 45:00 [2]

Felt like 5 mins had passed & we were already on the last track - in the zone!!

Wednesday Jan 28, 2015 #

Running 35:00 [2] 6.4 km (5:28 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 20 (Pink)

Standard Wednesday loop
7 PM

Running warm up/down 21:00 [1] 3.3 km (6:22 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 20 (Pink)

drills & jogging etc.

Running intervals (Track) 28:40 [4] 6.5 km (4:25 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 20 (Pink)

First attempt at speed work in forever!!
A timed 1600m to start so we can track improvements and then 6 x 500m.
Ran at 3:40 pace instead of the usual 4:00 & felt totally fine?! Like weirdly easy.

Tuesday Jan 27, 2015 #

S&C (pilates) 1:00:00 [1]

Theraband work - tough! I remember why I left this class now ;-)

S&C (weights) 10:00 [1]

Stretching 30:00 [0]

really needed this today - feel much better for all this alternative training

Monday Jan 26, 2015 #

Running warm up/down 16:20 [2] 2.95 km (5:32 / km) +20m 5:21 / km
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 20 (Pink)

over to emmer green

Running hills 31:30 [3] 5.3 km (5:57 / km) +240m 4:51 / km
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 20 (Pink)

Spin was cancelled & not done hills in a while, so 6 x 4mins (90sec) it was. Felt quite good actually. Garmin really helpfully showing that I did just 11 metres of climb during this hills session!

Running warm up/down 16:09 [2] 2.95 km (5:28 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 20 (Pink)

and back home :)

Sunday Jan 25, 2015 #

Orienteering 1:25:00 [3] 12.0 km (7:05 / km) +300m 6:18 / km
shoes: Oroc

Really wanted to get today right as I've been having a bit of a confidence crisis with my recent shocking attempts at orienteering. Forced myself to make the map reading number 1 priority today - really it's easy to forget to map read when you're orienteering right...!?
Amazing how much better things go when you're focused ;-) Some small time losses where I couldn't quite see the controls, but I was always very close & really loads improved on anything I've done recently - head back in the right place I hope :)

10 AM

Running race 56:47 [4] 10.73 km (5:18 / km) +70m 5:07 / km
shoes: X Talon 212

Butal10 womens only race - fab training run with Ruth. Set off having a chat, turned round & there was no one else in sight hahaha. Really enjoyed the course (except the ponds with ice still floating about in them!) & it was really fun to just be the two of us out in front. Don't think I've got the whole race mentality down though, was far too happy to stay in my comfort zone today! In hindsight I should probably have pushed on when I got a gap rather than happily tootling along as I don't quite have the sprint finish down yet ;-) maybe I'll be a competitive person one day haha. Great morning :)

Running warm up/down 15:00 [1] 2.2 km (6:49 / km)
shoes: X Talon 212

a bit before, not very much after - too cold!

Thursday Jan 22, 2015 #

Wednesday Jan 21, 2015 #

Running 35:00 [2] 6.4 km (5:28 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 20 (Pink)

Standard Wednesday loop - finally feel like Saturday is out of my legs (took long enough!)
7 PM

Running (Track) 21:00 [1] 3.3 km (6:22 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 20 (Pink)

warm up/down + drills - mega cold tonight (by Southern standards)

Running (Track) 40:40 [3] 8.7 km (4:40 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 20 (Pink)

7 x 800m @4min/km (~500m jogging recovery) - really good sociable group tonight & was feeling comfortable at this pace, so actually enjoyed a track session for once ;)

Running 5:00 [4] 1.3 km (3:51 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 20 (Pink)

4 x 200m "flat out" - except my flat out was a bit of a shuffle & I got overtaken by a bunch of old men :P cruel & unnecessary at 8pm!

Tuesday Jan 20, 2015 #

6 PM

Running 1:08:00 [2] 12.0 km (5:40 / km) +115m 5:24 / km
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 20 (Pink)

11 AM

Running race 1:12:00 [4] 12.2 km (5:54 / km) +550m 4:49 / km
shoes: X Talon 212

Box Hill Fell Race - omg I am not built for hills!
Hanging on with Ruth for most of the race but lost the will to keep pushing myself on the last climb & quite happy to finish just behind her this week. Faster than last time though, & this years course was longer and hillier, so I am getting better at hills (or stronger willed) even if it didn't feel like it :)
Genuinely hated it the whole way round but obviously I'll be back for more next year ;)

Running warm up/down 21:00 [1] 3.6 km (5:50 / km)
shoes: X Talon 212

All warmup/down

Friday Jan 16, 2015 #

7 PM

Running 40:50 [2] 7.2 km (5:40 / km) +50m 5:29 / km
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 20 (Pink)

Nice & easy round caversham park loop

Thursday Jan 15, 2015 #

Note

Probably nothing to worry about but I've been getting some headaches/blurry vision recently when I exercise. Thought it was just low blood pressure or blood sugar after a hard session but I had one during pilates today which is definitely not strenuous. Not sure what is triggering this but it definitely doesn't seem right.
6 PM

S&C 1:00:00 [1]

Sort of rest day, so just pilates tonight. Legs feel better already.

Wednesday Jan 14, 2015 #

Running 36:00 [2] 6.4 km (5:37 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 20 (Pink)

Not feeling spritely at all. Legs not cooperating today & really not loving all this cold/windy/rainy weather!
7 PM

Running warm up/down (Track) 20:54 [1] 3.27 km (6:23 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 20 (Pink)

warm up/down + drills

Running (Track) 35:30 [3] 8.08 km (4:24 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 20 (Pink)

2000, 3 x 600 (200), 5 x 300 (100), 800 - tried to run at 5km pace. Legs complained the whole way!! Good to get it done on nights like that though

Tuesday Jan 13, 2015 #

5 PM

Running 57:50 [2] 10.22 km (5:40 / km) +115m 5:21 / km
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 20 (Pink)

Disgusting weather. Really wanted to stay in and eat biscuits but figured that was a pretty rubbish excuse not to train. Couldn't face a hill session so just out for an easy run instead & soon started to enjoy it of course. There will be plenty of hills to compensate on Saturday anyway!

shoes: X Talon 212

Thames Valley XC (new tadley course)
First time I have ever won a cross country, yay!! :-)
So much fun - mud everywhere & actually felt quite strong going through it & all the marshy bits, although my legs reeeeally wanted to stop at 7km hah.
Making big fitness improvements recently which is a good confidence booster & great SN packing in 1st & 2nd! :)
1 PM

Orienteering 39:54 [2] 5.95 km (6:42 / km) +30m 6:32 / km
shoes: X Talon 212

Re-running some of the Southern Night Champs controls that I didn't do so well with in November. Still couldn't find that flipping rootstock!!

Orienteering 44:00 [2] 6.0 km (7:20 / km) +100m 6:46 / km

Pilates with Oli - might just be going to this class because he's beautiful but hey whatever works to get those core exercises done! :-)

Spin 45:00 [2]

Not as fun as Mark's Monday class, but still tough & good to get some extra time on the bike

Wednesday Jan 7, 2015 #

shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 20 (Pink)

Running 36:00 [3] 8.2 km (4:23 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 20 (Pink)

Threshold(?) intervals - 6 x 1200m (jogging recoveries)
Nice pace, felt good pushing on a bit but never breathing heavily, legs only started to feel it a little bit on the last one - not sure what that's officially called e.g. tempo/threshold/whatever but it felt good & hopefully will be beneficial without wrecking me for the rest of the week!

Tuesday Jan 6, 2015 #

12 PM

Running 1:38:00 [2] 19.05 km (5:09 / km) +145m 4:57 / km
shoes: Asics Gel Kayano 20 (Pink)

Took an extended lunch so I could get out into the countryside for a long run in the daylight. So enjoyed it. Found lots of muddy paths to explore which is waaay more fun than going round Reading in the dark.

Spin 1:00:00 [2]

Sunday Jan 4, 2015 #

Running 1:00:00 [2] 11.2 km (5:21 / km)
shoes: X Talon 212

Last day in Yorkshire - needed to get out & enjoy the frosty common before the long drive south. Been more challenging than i thought spending 2 weeks with non runners - wasn't quite the amount of training i had hoped I'd get done, but did have a lot of fun. Back to the routine tomorrow (got loads of races coming up to get me back on track).

Running 2:09:00 [3] 24.4 km (5:17 / km) +375m 4:55 / km
shoes: X Talon 212

Hardmoors 15 - I know compared to most people's adventures it's not that huge an achievement but it was the furthest I've ever run so I'm still proud of myself! Enjoyed it lots but it was very tough being right on the cliff tops with so so so much wind and mud and I'm sure more climb than my garmin shows! Hit a bit of a wall around km's 17-19 but mind over matter just kept it going. Started to get a bit desperate for a sit down after the half marathon point & I think the last 3 kms took about 20mins(!!) but I was only about 2mins down on the winner in the end & very happy with 2nd lady. Good start to a new year of adventures :-)
