Note

Woke up with a massively sore throat and a headache. Didn't feel like going cycling like I planned, so just stayed in and did my dissertation :(

Orienteering race 1:13:00 [4] 9.1 km (8:01 / km) +245m 7:04 / km

Tinto Night Event - Carmichael Estate

Thought I was going to be miles behind as I felt very slow (aka walked) up the hills, but actually did much better than I hoped because I didn't have any big errors. Need to work on manning up and running hard all the time, as I only ever seemed to push myself when I was with other people.

1 - Came off my bearing and into the re-entrant too low down, lost about 20secs
2 - Easy
3 - Wanted to go along the power lines but when I got there they were so overgrown with nettles, so I went back to the path, lost 1min
4 - The ride had power lines in it but they weren't mapped so I had a bit of a faff thinking I was somehow in the wrong place, 15secs
5 - Confident
6 - Fell and cut my knee really badly in the willow :( Clumsy as always...
7/8/9/10 - Died up the hills and lost the people who had overtaken me, got them all spot on though. Visualised the contours like the little hill at 9 and the ditch filled re-entrant at 10
11 - Came a bit lower than I intended to and ended up at the little fence, so I just contoured into it. Caught the group back up here so I must have been lucky to find it.
12 - Unnecessary crossing of fences
13 - Fast downhill :)
14 - Got a bit confused by the double deerfence, wasn't very well mapped

So good navigation, not so good fitness! (but after only 5 weeks back training I think that's okay)

Running 44:00 [2] 7.0 km (6:17 / km)

Had a bit of a cough this morning so just went for an easy jog. Saw some people have been doing drills/strides so I did 10 mins of them on the way back. Feel better for getting out and away from work.

Bike 1:24:00 [1]

Awesome morning cycle through the woods and ings. Really misty and atmospheric.

Note

Entered the Chevin Chase as my goal to keep me motivated for training now the weather is getting cold. Frustrating that I want to run more than I can, but staying healthy & on top of my shins is more important.

Running tempo 42:00 [4] 7.7 km (5:27 / km) +210m 4:48 / km

Hilly and muddy at Temple Newsam. Lots of fun

S&C 30:00 [1]

Decided I really need to start working on core stuff again if I want any chance of staying injury free. Did glutes and hamstrings pilates/physio work today.

Note

Absolute nightmare of a day, training was the last thing on my mind today :(

Wednesday Oct 17, 2012 #

Running 1:07:00 [3] 10.2 km (6:34 / km) +200m 5:59 / km

Steady pace around Braids. Really enjoyed it.

Tuesday Oct 16, 2012 #

Gym 50:00 [3]

Cross trainer - increasing resistance every 4 minutes, worked hard but having a pretty tough week :(

Note

Got a tens machine that I've been using on my shin & it really seems to be making a difference at speeding up the length of time I am feeling achy for after impact sessions. It's supposed to work on the nerves fibres to block pain and stimulate endorphin production. Was pretty sceptical at first but definitely feeling a positive effect :)

Bike warm up/down 25:00 [1]

Orienteering 35:00 [3] 5.0 km (7:00 / km) +175m 5:57 / km

Mass start score event on Blackford Hill.
Took a pretty shocking route as I didn't make a plan before setting off, and just tried to pick up the high scoring ones.
Awfully slow up the hills, but at least I managed to run off the after-effects of all those sambuca shots :)

Bike warm up/down 25:00 [1]

Orienteering warm up/down 10:00 [1]

Orienteering 21:05 [4] 3.0 km (7:02 / km)

EUOC alumni weekend.
Sprint around KB. Really good, lots of butterfly loops and head to head racing kept things exciting and competitive.

Gym 1:00:00 [3]

Evening spinning class.
Far too many short shorts going on.
Felt great :)

Gym 1:00:00 [3]

Circuits. Love it even though all the jumping makes my shin ache.

30sec of each - Plank, shoulder press, dynamic side lunges, trx row, weighted squats, jumps, pull ups, bench press, step ups, crunches, burpies, jump ups, tricep dips x3 - with running intervals in between.

Tuesday Oct 9, 2012 #

Gym 45:00 [1]

Zumba. Not the best work out but very very fun!

Monday Oct 8, 2012 #

Bike 40:00 [2]

Sunday Oct 7, 2012 #

Note
(rest day)

Major love for the big cheese, although definitely not conducive to next day training. Brilliant.

Saturday Oct 6, 2012 #

Orienteering race 37:45 [5] 5.6 km (6:44 / km)

Livingston urban race.
Felt seriously unfit the entire way, but really enjoyed all the little route choices. A definite challenge trying to keep control flow going in the confusing housing areas.
& my shin didn't hurt again :) I think this running once a week is sustainable :)

Orienteering warm up/down 15:00 [1]

Friday Oct 5, 2012 #

Bike 40:00 [2]

Sunshine?! Couldn't resit going for a morning cycle to make the most of it :)

Gym 45:00 [4]

Spin Class. OMG this was a bit more intense than the other guy. Very glad when it ended!

Thursday Oct 4, 2012 #

Note

Meant to go to the gym but feeling a bit overwhelmed with work.
Oh & Chris Hoy and his thighs said good morning to me, swoon.

Wednesday Oct 3, 2012 #

Gym 1:30:00 [2]

Circuits. Got paired up with some old woman who was an absolute beast. Still feeling keen afterwards so stayed on for extra spinning

Monday Oct 1, 2012 #

Gym 1:00:00 [3]

Spinning class. Pretty tough - lots of prolonged efforts of resistance trying to keep rpm in his specified zones. Good fun.
