shoes: Orange Inov8

EBOR summer score - Rawcliffe Ings

Stupid stomach hurt the whole way, i really shouldn't have gone out. Still did quite well but was pretty painful. Not going to run the rest of this week now and just hope it clears up and then i can focus on exams too. I am p*ssed off at being injured all the time. I get rid of one thing and get another.

Orienteering race 48:34 [5] ***** 5.3 km (9:10 / km) +150m 8:02 / km

British Elite Middle Distance Championships - Cademan & Thringstone Woods

If there is an area that was perfect for what I enjoy most in orienteering then that was it! Was such a fun course, I loved every second of it!
Was exactly the kind of orienteering I like - Loads of controls, really complex, changing visibility - Awsome.

Didn't have the best warm up! Got there in plently of time and went round the warm up controls and identified what was easy to navigate off. Then was about to start my drills and such when i got a nose bleed! Was actually ridiculous - I am so grateful to whoever the woman was that gave me her hankercheif and so sorry that I ruined it! So that completely distracted me and then I had to start my run as soon as it had stopped!

Made a few little silly mistakes like at 2 where i was stood just above it and couldn't see it. I needed more confidence in myself at the beginning to trust that I was in the right place.
Got into it through the rocky control pick part and got a better control flow going.
Messed up 12-13, and i'm really annoyed at that one because i was going straight to it and then i saw some people to my left at a control and went to it grrrr! Was really obviously at the top of the hill too so i'm pretty annoyed there.
Started to feel it at about 17 and felt the concentration going. Blew 19 really badly. Didn't know which direction I'd left 18 in so tried to head for the open but completely missed it somehow and was looking on the wrong set of rocks. Had to relocate from my number 6! oops. Then started to go staright from 19-21. AAAHH disasterous!! So ended up with a huge detour there when I realised. That bit of the course lost me a lot of time.
I must have got through the pain barrier by then because I started to speed up again. Caught up Charlotte & Sophie on the way to 26 which was a bit of a boost and spured me on. Couldn't really think much at the end and I have no idea where exactly I went to 29 but I ended up at the open which is where i was aiming for so that was good.

Since I'm always picking out the things I did wrong, some good points:
* 13-14 I was pleased with. I just got on with it and simplified really well, using the 2 crags and reeentrant.
*20-23 I didn't faff around for once! Ignored all the other people :)
*26-27 I had the confidence to leave the area where everyone else was looking and believe in myself that i was right! That is such a big step for me!

Came 2nd by about 50seconds I think so I was well chuffed that i came so high up even with my mistakes. I might not be able to run very fast yet but at least I can still manage to navigate! yay :)
Much needed confidence boost again. Also I'm really pleased that I pushed to my limit today and didn't wimp out of running hard. And so so pleased that my tummy pain didn't affect me. And really hope the selectors look at that race even though it was after FCC!!!

Orienteering race 16:39 [4] **** 2.5 km (6:40 / km) +50m 6:03 / km
spiked:15/18c shoes: Trainers

British Elite Sprint Championships - Nottingham Uni - Heats - Women C

Didn't enjoy this race at all. I felt I started out well, but my stomach was still hurting from pilates and it just got more painful the further round the course I got, to the point where I had to walk 12-13 and part of 15-finish. Not really a great thing to be doing in a sprint race!!! Technically it was ok, I made some poor route choice 8-9-10 though.

Pretty disappointed cos normally i enjoy sprint races the best but definately not today! Unsurprisingly I didn't qualify for the A final.

Orienteering race 18:56 [4] **** 2.6 km (7:17 / km) +60m 6:32 / km
spiked:14/18c shoes: Trainers

Womens B Final

Wasn't sure if I was going to run this race or not because of my stomach pain but I put on the deep heat and decided to have a go.

Set off pretty slowly because I didn't want to push too hard and risk injury and i just had a steady race. Took some really silly route choices in the middle section again (7-8, 10-11, 12-13) so must have lost a good bit of time there. I just didn't push hard enough and ended up being about 40 seconds down on where I was aiming for.

I'm not disappointed but I think it is sprint races like this where a lack of fitness shows up and the concentration goes.

Gym 45:00 [2]

Was planning on a run but my stomach muscles really hurt from yesterday and I'm exhausted with exam work. Is just one of those days where you need to listen to your body and take some time to recover even if you don't want to. Did some light weights and stability work on the mini trampeline that the physio gave me to strengthen my ankles.

Need to get some extra sleep tonight I think.

Pretty Intense! Had to do the plank for 4mins! I just about managed 1!! Did loads of stomach and posture work too.

Note

Got a massive purple bruise on my foot, can't run at the moment, it is quite painful.

FCC Final/ British Elite Championships - Mallards Pike & New Beechenhurst

Really enjoyed this race. I was just pleased that I managed to run the whole course and not make any disasters out there! But then to come 3rd was awsome. I was so happy!!! :D I think it was what I needed though because I was beginning to think that maybe I just couldn't orienteer any more and I was bummed out about the injury and then all my races this year being rubbish.

Paced myself well out there. I knew it was too far for me, so I just took it really steadily. My number got ripped of going 1-2 and there were loads of lamas which really distraced me and I got stuck in the dark green area. I was quite hesitant in the ditch area just before and just after the map change too. Not sure I took the best routes towards the end but I was just aiming for a clean run so perhaps I was too cautious and didn't attack it enough.

I think my fitness will come back and I have improved in every race I have done so that is a positive sign. I know i can still do it, just hopefully other people can too!!

Note

Bashed my foot on a rock and have a big bruise under it. Probably nothing but no more running for a few days just to be sure!

Running race 36:38 [4] *** 3.9 km (9:24 / km) +120m 8:08 / km

FCC Middle Distance Final - Mallards Pike

Quite disappointed with this race, some of it went really well and I let myself down on other parts.

The first section was all really good and I caught up the people who set off before me. I think I took a poor route choice to 6 as I was trying to be over cautious. 7-8 I died going up the hill and I didn't know where I had come out on the path. Thinking about it now I was a lot lower down than I realised and lost a good 3 mins running up and down the spur trying to relocate but I hadn't gone far enough. I wish now I had gone to the ditch corner like I planned to or just stopped to look at my map. Then I just couldn't get back into it and was far too hesitant over the next few and completely missed the gully at 11. Really really enjoyed the last bit down the hill though and went for it here and probably ran at my limit.

I thought for a middle distance it seemed quite easy becasue it was so open and so going straighter on some legs would have actually been faster.

I was pretty gutted at the end with 4mins of time lost and being about 3mins down on where I was really aiming for.

I want to go to EYOC!! :( I have well blown the FCC this year!
