running 1:31:20 [3]
shoes: Asics Nimbus 22

Nice autumn morning for a longer run over to Mitcham, up behind Carrick Hill and Waite, then back through the suburbs - all before going to work.

Note

The novelty of eating two pears a day has worn off for me, and maybe even for the dog...but we pick up 8-10 from under the tree every morning and the kitchen bench is overrun with pears which don't fit in the fridge. Such a pity that they're not easily freezable/stewable :(

orienteering (Flinders Uni) 32:37 [3] 2.9 km (11:15 / km)
shoes: Asics Kayano 27

Found an old Sprint Series map/course which I've eventually worked out was from Feb 2014, so a few things have changed since then (also none of the garden beds were shown as olive green), but it was still a good way of attempting to trick my brain into thinking that my legs didn't hurt so much, and I jogged around fairly casually (about 4 min slower than in 2014!) avoiding stairs where possible, so some of my route choices were suboptimal. Flinders Uni has such nice gardens and courtyards though and it's probably one of my favourite sprint maps - do wonder if we could use either this or Adelaide Uni for an Aust Sprint Champs some time.

running (Belair) 59:00 [3]

Redwoods run with Zara/Fern (picking up TwoDogs from the Hawthorndene house along the way). Ran a bit faster coming back along the valley as I suddenly realised it might get dark soon!

running 44:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Nimbus 22

Not much momentum tonight but did see some nice autumn gardens, plus admired the classic bungalow architecture of streets in Glandore which I'd never been down before now.

riding (Brownhill Creek) 1:07:00 [3] 19.5 km (3:26 / km)

Got up at 5am, left home about 6, got to Roseworthy College by 7 and somehow it took me nearly 3 hours to get all 38 controls out - stands, flags, units, wooden blocks for a dozen of them (although I was able to stick one stand into a hay bale), cable ties for a couple - and open a few gates, make sure no OOB areas would entice people to enter them etc. So it's a good thing that we had decided to have starts from 10:30am to allow people to get there from the other side of town. My controller kept on getting to controls ahead of me to check them and they weren't there yet, even though he'd given me a 90 min head start...

Wallaringa's a small club, and although we had 20 members entered, 6 of them were the under-10s who would need shadowing, and another 6 were their parents who would be tag-teaming while doing their own courses, and then taking the kids around...so that didn't leave many helpers for start/finish/rego*, but thankfully sprints aren't very complicated :)

I've controlled SA Sprint Champs a couple of times before now, but never actually planned the courses myself. Was particularly pleased that absolutely no one DNFed by punching a wrong control; this is the goal to which I aspire with every event that I set. Happy with the M21 winning time as Angus did 15:13 (ok, I could have left off the control at the top of the stairs in the oval grandstand, but where's the fun in that?). I was well aware of W21 being slightly too long but the integrity of the course would have been compromised by shaving 1-200m off (I did try, but rejected the options I came up with) and it was pretty neat to have Liv & Lani equal first - also, Bridgibump made it around the whole course!

We were all packed up & ready to leave by about 1pm, so I got home eight hours after I left, and in the evening decided to go for a bike ride which my legs reported to be quite difficult even though all they'd done today was to stand around.

*the little kids helpfully wanted to collect controls at the end...3-year-old S cried when I allocated her less than her birthday number, so she was graciously permitted to collect an extra one.
