orienteering (Goanna Park) 1:06:00 [2] 4.5 km (14:40 / km)
shoes: Keen trail shoes

Lachlan needed to check some control sites for the late-May event so Eleanor & Geoff & I went along for the ride, and I test-ran a course although this was very slow going, partly because of the head-high gamba grass and my avoidance of swampy bits - and also because my navigation was a bit woeful in parts. Some interesting rock out there (it's actually granite). I got a bit hot & sweaty, but wasn't at all inclined to swim in the dam when I got back, because it's anticipated to have a reptilian population. Interesting that there were basically no fallen trees once we got east of Humpty Doo, because Marcus was so localised.

Note

It's kind of liberating not to be going to Easter races and meetings this year. We were greeted at the airport in Darwin by Susanne & Eleanor & Heidi - who is already attempting to crawl at 6 months! Also we had dinner with Master Frederick Scott & his parents; juxtaposing 3 small children with an Indian (the only restaurant open on Good Friday) banquet actually worked out okay.

running 38:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Kayano 23

Hopefully the latest dawn I'll experience on a run this year.

7 AM

swimming 34:00 [3] 1.0 km (34:00 / km)

Actually got this done in enough time to beat the Wednesday morning uni traffic logjam.
6 PM

riding (Brownhill Creek) 1:05:00 [3] 19.5 km (3:20 / km)

Seized the last opportunity to do this after work until...October. Woodsmoke in the valley made it feel autumnal - will be weird to spend an Easter where it definitely doesn't.

Think we were all a bit buggered tonight.

orienteering race (Mack Creek) 1:25:21 [2] 6.4 km (13:20 / km) +195m 11:34 / km
shoes: Asics Kayano 22

Wasn't desperate to go orienteering after spending a couple of hours on party-cleanup this morning, but figured that WMOC training has to start some time. Not sure what I thought of the course - there seemed to be a lot of short legs and so it wasn't always possible to avoid the thicker stuff. There were some nice bits although these mostly came at the end by which time I had run out of legs; I'm ashamed of how much I ended up walking. A couple of good route choice options, and some neat rock features as control sites, and some dumb control-circle mistakes by me (turns out I got beaten by most of the M16s. some of whom are only 14...).
