swimming 33:00 [3] 1.0 km (33:00 / km)

Still dark when I started this, which was squeezed in before AOTKM and was a precursor to a very full day of preparing for hosting Spudnight, which doubled as Manu's farewell party and at which the highlight was definitely:
7 PM

orienteering race (Beer-O relay) 6:30 [4]
shoes: Asics Kayano 22

Haha, this was hilarious! And so simple...teams of 2, first runner has to down a beer* before starting the course (which was from ours to and around the park/playground in the block behind us, then back to and around the house) down another beer after finishing, then hand map (made by Manu, of course) over to teammate who does the same! I clearly haven't had enough practice at skolling drinks, because I was last out of the driveway (even after the people drinking non-alcoholic beverages). It was astounding how quickly Simon managed to tip his beer straight down his throat, but the B&S team ended up being beaten by Manu and Liv, partly because Bridget's second beer wasn't as cooperative as she had hoped.

This hilarity was followed by the consumption of vast quantities of nachos and baked potatoes, and everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves despite being a bit sad about Manu's impending departure.

running 31:00 [3]

It's been a pretty full-on week (and 2 more to go) being 2 people at work, so I really needed to stretch my legs - which I did fairly carefully - once I finally escaped @7pm.

In other news, I finally finished reading Gone Girl, which was a Christmas present (no, I hadn't seen the movie). And my first thought was "What an awful book!". Oh, definitely it's suspenseful and draws you in with more and more plot twists so that you have to keep reading, but the characters are basically unlikeable, and so manipulative that I couldn't find anyone to feel sorry for - the main protagonists hate each other so much that they are prepared to destroy each other. Think I'll go re-read The Time Traveller's Wife as an antidote. Now that's a love story for the ages...or maybe ageless.

(injured)

When you need to walk down stairs sideways, it's probably best not to go running.

orienteering (micr-O) 21:00 [3]
(injured) shoes: Asics Kayano 23

Despite massaging and stretching and a couple of days off running, the tendon above my knee seems to have declared war on the rest of me; like a silent assassin it will lay in wait and then attack when it's least convenient (sitting down to my desk, or getting into the car). So I was pretty tentative running around, but actually that wasn't too bad, doing 3 short sprint courses around Orphanage Park and then Heywood Park. About 35 people came out, because this is Manu's last training session in Adl, and so there were lots of orienteers running all over the place and I wasn't too obviously slower than everyone else.

riding (Brownhill Creek) 1:06:00 [3] 19.5 km (3:23 / km)

For some reason, I felt today like I'd actually run in the rogaine. Took a while to convince myself that I did want to drive down to Port Noarlunga to collect controls, but at least we had enough volunteers so that I only needed to get 9 of the 45. Spent some time looking at various teams' routes and the number of teams which visited each control - even the least popular/most remote had 8 teams go through, while the ones nearest the HH had over 80 - and eventually got out for a late afternoon ride along the creek, which knees didn't complain about too much. (Reckon I need to foamroller ITBs and shins thoroughly, and avoid running on hard ground if possible.)
