swimming 35:00 [3] 1.0 km (35:00 / km)

This was just a warmup for the afternoon's activity: spending the entire 3hr minigaine dressed as a moving control, doing laps of Wynn Vale Dam which is about 1km around, changing directions whenever I felt like it, running away from fast teams (egged on by my bodyguard/photographer) and jogging on the spot so that teams with prams and small children could get the 100 points with ease, presuming that they had started out on the correct side of the lake and/or I hadn't changed my direction when they were halfway around...

I don't know when I've last enjoyed myself quite so much. Possibly this is the most fun it's possible to have with a red-and-white T shirt on! It was hilarious before the start when I was wandering through the crowd at the HH, Navlight carefully hidden and control flags in my hair, admiring all the teams' fancy dress outfits and someone said to me "Wouldn't it be funny if your fancy dress was mistaken for the roving control?". My response: "What if I am the roving control...?" One team outsmarted me though, by strolling casually around the lake, maps behind their backs, so that I thought they were just locals out for a walk until they accosted me and demanded to punch the Navlight!

So. Much. Fun. Legs tired now, wish I'd had a Garmin on.

Note

Brainnnn. Meltingggg. Partly from the new-paint-and-fittings smell in both the new hospice/rehab building & the new (sadly windowless) pharmacy office which has been fitted out for the Repat refugees - at least I managed to snaffle a corner desk - and partly because of all the little glitches which still need sorting out. Such as the following sequence of events:
a) nurses complaing that none of the medications they'd ordered had been delivered up from pharmacy;
b) the dispensary asking me to tell the nurses not to send the hard copy printouts of the drug orders down with the pharmacy delivery courier, because they will be thrown away on the assumption they are duplicates of orders faxed through already;
c) me relaying this back to the nursing staff who said "we don't have a fax machine, we didn't bring it with us from Repat!"
So this is why they'd been waiting 2 days for certain medications...

Perfect evening for a run via Long Gully kiosk, up Saddle Hill Rd to the top of the park, all the way down QJD and back along the creek - with B&S, Zara/Callum, Nick plus Manu on his bike. Knees coped better with both the ascent and the descent than I had expected, possibly because I walked up & down about 16 flights of stairs today...I am either going to become much fitter at FMC, or else my knees will self-destruct.

orienteering (Waite) 30:50 [3] 3.1 km (9:57 / km)
shoes: Asics Kayano 23

Fun course with the first half around the CSIRO buildings and greenhouses (I fell straight into the trap on the first control but got smarter as the course went on, at least in terms of guessing from the control description where it was likely to be placed) and the second half zigzagging through the arboretum where good bearings and interpretation of the way the trees had been mapped, was necessary. Enjoyed this although legs and brain were very tired and I completely vagued out when collecting controls afterwards (absentmindedly collected an extra one which meant the person who was supposed to do so couldn't find it).

Completely emptied out my office and handed in my Repat ID today :(

running hills (Morialta) 1:21:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Kayano 22

Beautiful cool evening for a longer run, up to Deep View past the everlasting daisies, around to and all the way up Central Track (had to stop once going up the Besser blocks) out to Moores Rd, back around the inside park boundary and down via 3rd Falls. Weirdly enough, I actually felt good, either because of last night's Killer Massage or this morning's heavy-duty anti-inflammatories, and in fact this was a time similar to other summers'. Suspect I may have sacrificed hamstrings to save knees though, but that's tomorrow's problem.

Can't help but notice how little exercise I appear to have actually done this month, vs how much chocolate I seem to have consumed - in the context of the household's chocolate drawer, my spouse is an enabler.

Note

Packed my 'Atlantis box' today - surprising how little I am physically taking with me to FMC after 16 years of being spoiled by having my own office (up there I'll be lucky to have a desk to myself). Thank goodness we will still have computer access to the RGH network drive!

running (Bridgewater) 1:04:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Kayano 22

Old Heysen Spur trail out across the train line to Verdun, back up via Silver Rd and the waterhole on Cox Creek, with Zara/Callum & Steve. I was pretty buggered, having got home at 10pm yesterday after being out all day, and also foolishly was wearing a black t-shirt on a warm windy morning. Spent the afternoon with parents checking out control sites around Morphett Vale for the March rogaine, and am now completely wrecked but really pleased that we have found an excellent hash house venue at Southern United Netball Association @Wilfred Taylor Reserve. They only play matches on weeknights :)
