running 35:30 [3]
shoes: Asics 2000-4

Geoff & I flew out of Adelaide at 8pm, Melbourne at 11:35pm, and into Auckland just before 5am. It sucks to lose a night's sleep, but on the other hand this gave us an extra day for touristing. Having cleared customs by 5:30am we walked with our gear 2km to the car hire place which didn't open until 7ish, then headed south and breakfasted in Hamilton, saw bored but very cute kiwis (somehow I hadn't really believed they existed) in the nocturnal house at Otorohanga, thousands of glow worms from the boat on the underground river at Waitomo caves (which were closed last Wed when the river was flowing at roof height) and are now staying on a dairy farm near Pirongia from which I went for a sunset run around some rural roads, admiring the cows. Everything's so green, and there is still a lot of water lying around in any river valley.

riding (Brownhill Creek) 1:03:00 [3] 19.0 km (3:19 / km)

Nice morning for it, even though my legs protested and I needed more sleep - stayed up too late packing, but won't get any sleep tonight because G & I are on an overnight flight to Auckland :)

running (Belair night) 55:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Kayano 21

Torchlit redwoods run with Zara/Callum, Des & Meredith, Ruhi, Simon, Nick, Dante and Angus, the latter 3 of whom were so proud of their new Arrows jackets that they didn't take them off even when we went up & over the big hill at the far end and the air was much warmer than in the valley. I get the impression that the entirety of Orienteering SA's membership is a little sad that our Visiting Italian Scholar is leaving tomorrow :(

swimming 36:00 [3] 1.0 km (36:00 / km)

Not sure why my neck & shoulders have been so stiff/tight lately but at least this didn't make it worse.
6 PM

orienteering (Apex Park night sprint) 23:37 [3] 2.9 km (8:09 / km)
shoes: Asics 2000-4

Last technical training of the Summer Of Stefano, on a map which is his legacy to us (as is my new understanding of undoable cable ties!). Sure, we've run paired relays before on Apex Park, but not when torches are required - and this was lots of fun although I didn't dare run particularly hard in the dark and it took me a while to get to the controls UNDER the bridge:
6:51
7:53
8:51
Also, I looove my new Arrows racing singlet (even though the cut of the women's ones is such that they don't allow for having 'boobage' and so it was necessary for me to get a looser men's fit).

running 40:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Kayano 22

North Adelaide loop with Sarah, John, Angus, Simon. My post-massage legs were glad that nobody suggested intervals - but I guess the others had all run the time trial last night.

Note
(rest day)

Very tired today after hosting Arrows' spudnight last night (it went well and there was heaps of food) so I just came home and flopped on the couch and ate junk food, after Attack Of The Killer Masseuse.

orienteering race (Pewsey Vale OY) 1:12:23 [3] 5.6 km (12:56 / km) +300m 10:12 / km
shoes: Inov8 ORoc 280

Thank goodness John set these courses shorter than usual, because Pewsey Vale is slow going. And being more middle-distance style, this was a fairly interesting course. Still not sure what was going on in the control circle at 3 where the boulders weren't exactly in the same place on the ground as on the map (or maybe the contours weren't) but at least I only lost a minute or so there. Ground's pretty hard currently and knees had had enough by the end. Didn't feel like I was out for longer than last week though.
