I didn't *quite* do a Jim and go to another state just to run, but this route did straddle the border line on a number of occasions...decided that since I had spent a significant sum on hiring a car, I should make use of it, and headed down to Coolangatta for dinner. Had heard about traffic along the coastal highway being fairly ordinary, so took the motorway and instantly hit the traffic jam. After travelling approx 10km in half an hour, I decided to turn off at Currumbin and go up & over the range to Murwillumbah, because I could. This car (seriously, who's ever heard of a Holden Trax SUV?) is crap at cornering on mountain roads but the view down into the Tweed River Valley from the border gate on the ridgeline was really nice, and from the river I could see back up to the transmitter towers where I had been at Springbrook on Sunday.
Yeah, so the sun had already set by the time I got to Coolangatta/Tweed Heads although there was still enough light to run along the foreshore past the surfers at Snapper Rocks - looking back at the lights of Surfers Paradise in the distance - out to & around Point Danger headland, and find the street with the 25% incline sign. After I'd run up it, I wondered if there were any other steeper ones so checked out a couple more hills, but I think that the place where I've previously seen a 28% sign is actually on a back road up to Mt Tamborine.
