Spent the morning at work and the afternoon at the Uppills' looking at Robin's courses for the Ultralong (which I'm a little sad that I won't get to race myself). In the evening told G that I was going for a run and would he please meet me at 'the palindrome' so that we could dine in the vicinity? It was pretty boring running up Main South Road but once I got across to the bikepath along the old tram line, this run was definitely more pleasant than last Saturday's. Still not lifting my legs very well though and tripping on bumps in the pavement. And the breeze was rather chilly at the beach!

It was already 30 degrees when I drove up to Belair and met John, Andrew, Zara and TinselDog for a Christmas morning run. I suggested: to redwoods, up the singletrack, down QJD - but sadly I was lagging behind on every hill and the others had to wait for me. Even going downhill my legs were just so tired and once on the flat I ended up having to walk. Not sure why I'm weary - we weren't that late getting back from dinner with parents last night (nice evening for a walk to the beach).

Detoured past the hospital mulberry tree on the way home and got quite a good haul before getting called by work (but hey, I was already at work...) and then parents came for lunch after which we taught them to play Uno before the cool change came in and the dog could be walked.

Before work Christmas breakfast (so much fooood...). Stayed up far too late reading last night so needed a refreshing dip to wake me up!

Thought G might need a taxi after his work Christmas do, so ran across to Melrose Park (where the ute was parked at the work yard), but he was among the more sober of the tradies getting off the chartered bus from Port Adelaide after their 'dolphin cruise'.

Suburban shuffle upon dusk in search of Christmas lights, although I didn't see too many houses where they were either superlative or superfluous. Struggled a bit though because I was full of dinner and also 7 days in a row of having been out and about in the evening means being pretty tired by now.

Note

Kind of busy preparing the annual Christmas quiz for the pharmacy department for Tuesday lunchtime. I didn't want to make the questions too obscure because I've been accused in the past of having them too hard. Anyway, the result was absolute hilarity...also I taught my colleagues the meaning of the word 'mondegreen'.

Woke up at 5:30am so thought I'd escape into the great outdoors before it got to 40 degrees which it did later (and Penrith's a wee bit more humid than Adelaide, so that's not pleasant). Up at Glenbrook it was only about 16 and the Red Hands Cave-Campfire Creek loop would have been quite enjoyable if it wasn't for my legs complaining bitterly; very tight hips and knees and so the numerous stones & steps were a bit of an effort, plus I was pretty cautious because the leaf litter was a bit slippery - so this was about 5 min slower than in March :( I saw a guy with a 6 Foot Track singlet racing a cyclist coming up from the Causeway. That's the sort of fitness I don't have!

But if I had a bit more fitness, I might contemplate the Tabletop Marathon which Terry Cleary is organising in Litchfield NP on the June long weekend...good rogaine training? Anyway, the family lunch and gift-giving went well and we left Penrith in plenty of time to allow for the traffic jams caused by overheated cars on the M4 and people rear-ending each other on Parramatta Road. (Not quite as bucolic a scene as the traffic queues in Scotland.)
