orienteering race (SA Middle Champs) 1:02:00 [3] 5.4 km (11:29 / km)
shoes: Asics Trabuco

Twigham, circa Irena's 2004 map. Started out with ok bearings through the first few flat controls although I overshot 5 a little, then on 6 I misread a patch of unmapped bushy stuff in a gully as being the mapped light green lower down (forgetting that light green here is mostly tangled eucalypts) and so went further up than I needed to, checking out a control on a short double-ended watercourse but thinking it was only on a gully, then going over the spur above the gully I actually wanted and doing a lap of the broad vagueness in the next gully before coming back over the spur to the watercourse control and working out where it actually was this time, then going downhill to the control.

Spent a bit of time on 7 looking around in places where the control wasn't (this was the contentious one on the men's also) then lost all energy and ability to run and basically walked the rest of the course. I was tired, coldy, hungry and had spent the morning checking control sites on Merridee, plus my knee was twinging. Afterwards I walked around the rest of the Merridee controls I hadn't been to yet and finished putting out pink tapes for the kiddie courses right on dark.

Note
(sick)

Not that I ever thought it did, but vitamin C doesn't prevent a cold. Living off (on?) the produce of our orange tree for the last month seems to have prevented scurvy though.

running (Belair night) 49:54 [3]

Redwoods return with B&S and Lauren. Right leg twinging a bit; guess I've been sitting too much lately.

Wednesday Sep 10, 2014 #

Note

Progressing sore throat, map bagging, and getting home at 11pm, after which I decided that I did want dinner after all.

Tuesday Sep 9, 2014 #

Note

Emerging sore throat, start draw, and getting home therefrom at 11pm.

running (Monday night) 32:46 [3]
shoes: Asics Kayano 19

Down to Frank Smith Park & back with Tyson. Running was hard. Breathing was hard. The ground was hard when Mr T landed on it and nearly rolled into the lake. We almost managed to convince Fern that I had tripped him up on purpose!

Pretty weary today (impressed by Zara & Lauren's winning the 12 hour; they must be rather more stuffed) but it was still warm out when we got back from visiting grandfather so I went for a trot in the last of the daylight. Probably a good thing that yesterday wasn't any warmer, and here's hoping that next weekend won't be too sunny, because we winter vampires aren't used to it yet.
