swimming 35:00 [3] 1.0 km (35:00 / km)

Nice morning in the pond.
7 PM

running 44:13 [3]
shoes: Asics Kayano 19

Sunset run: up Hillrise, tunnel x over track into Sleeps Hill, some illegal bipedal pedestrian activity on the bikes-only track which is officially known as Quarry Loop but which I think of as Fairyland/Enchanted Forest. Back through the cemetery where I discovered a fascinating war memorial with coordinates of various battles and a black marble compass, engraved into the roundabout that I have run past plenty of times before.

running (Belair) 44:00 [3]
shoes: Asics GT-2000

Sus and F&T turned back at the train line while Zara & I went across, up the hill to the lower waterfall and down through Echo tunnel. Don't think we're meant to cross the line any more; we ran past a big sign which effectively said DANGER NO ACCESS and then the gate on the other side of the pedestrian crossing was padlocked and we had to lift Callum over it.

Glad conference is over; it has sucked driving to/from the city 4 days straight. Tomorrow I have to go to Noarlunga instead.

running 33:52 [3]

Short stuffed stagger with the aim of increasing alertness level before conference dinner. Dinner was pleasant enough but an early night would have been nice.

After I got home from conference - presentation went well :) Mind was wandering all over the place but legs just kept doing their thing without a great deal of input from brain.

Around Hawthorndene with F&T, Simon and Troy, hearing about hens' night and bucks' day. Very tired and I still have some tweaking of tomorrow's conference presentation to do. Also it turned out that the nursing home bed for father in law was a figment of someone's imagination :(

orienteering race (South Sydney Summer Serie) 43:36 [4]
shoes: Asics Kayano 19

After in-law visiting this morning I talked the boy into taking me to street O at Marrickville. Being wise to the tactics employed by highly competitive orienteers who study their maps in detail before beginning the 45-minute score, I got him to help me plan a route :)

Decided to do everything north of Cooks River first and then see how much time I had left. This took me slightly longer than anticipated because I couldn't find a laneway which turned out to have an impassable wall at the end I was approaching from, and because there was a control in the wrong place (possibly circle misplaced, rather than control, but some other controls weren't the same distance along the street on the ground as they were on the map).

Anyway, I crossed the (tidal, with mangroves) river at about 30 min and panicked a bit about getting back and so went to a 20 & 10 on the near side of the main road when in hindsight I should have swapped them for 2x30 and a 10 on the far side - as it was I only got 470 points and was back with a minute and a half to spare. But I was running more strongly than I have for a while, and weirdly, my legs didn't hurt. Maybe standing in salt water yesterday was good for them.
