riding (Brownhill Creek) 54:00 [3] 19.5 km (2:46 / km)

Pretty fatigued, but still a reasonable time.
5 PM

orienteering (Karinya) 50:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Trabuco

Really fatigued. Ran around my sprint courses for the Karinya SSS event on the 22nd, noting some fencing/building works in Blackwood High. Don't know why my legs and back are so tight currently; knees were unimpressed too. It seems I need to take antiinflammatories even to make training worthwhile?

Note
(rest day)

Had intended to get to street O but farewell drinks at work for a colleague meant there was no chance of getting across to Paradise by 7pm. Thought about riding instead when I got home but left it until the morning.

swimming 36:00 [3] 1.0 km (36:00 / km)

NTB. Smell from bakery (finger buns - I could almost taste the currants) had me salivating under water. Raining nicely by the time I finished.

So, apparently my Spring 12 hr Rogaine is on election day. Hmph!
7 PM

running (Belair) 56:10 [3]
shoes: Asics Kayano 18

Redwoods run with F&T, Zara/Callum, Greg. Lots of stops which I needed. Seem to have no strength to push off even when knees don't hurt. Lovely night for it though and afterwards Z & I discussed timelines for rogaine setting before I went to the Uppills' to show Adrian some Flinders Uni map changes and he fed me lasagna :)

orienteering (Flinders Uni) 35:00 [3]

Thought I should get a km rate comparator by re-running the sprint course which Robin set here in March - I'm 3 min slower now, and I thought I was having a bad day then! Admittedly I was pretty tired after finishing rearranging my courses at about 12:30am, but I couldn't believe I was/am in so much pain this morning (knees & back) when I'd actually felt sort of ok running last night. Guess I stiffened up after running on pavement :(

Also checked out a couple of doors which may or may not be open as thoroughfares on the day of the event.

orienteering 59:08 [3]
shoes: Asics Kayano 18

Ran around my prototype men's and women's courses at Flinders Uni, also testing out some route choices and noting map corrections. I know I'm slow at the minute but still think they're a little on the long side, although part of my slowness was stopping under streetlights to read the map towards the end, as I'd left it a bit late to go out for a run 'cos I was still tweaking the courses in OCAD. Problem is, there are so many good control sites and legs to choose from, and it's not as flat an area as many sprints...

Note
(rest day)

Had intended to go to the sprint event in Sydney but it was really a rather wet afternoon, better spent in bookshops on Glebe Point Rd. Probably not a bad idea to give my knees a break anyway.

Unfortunately the spoils of the bookshop expedition spent rather too long being subjected to torrential rain - in our non-waterproof luggage - while being loaded on the (delayed; we got in at nearly 11pm) plane, and all our stuff was wet when we got home, but not nearly as wet as if we lived somewhere with a river flowing through the house...

running 1:08:00 [3]

Well, the outcome of the Hottest 100 was easier to predict than the outcome of the tennis...and then the mozzies kept me awake most of the night, and it rained towards morning, and I really didn't feel like any strenuous cliff-descending epics. So I ran into Springwood along the roads which was about 3-4km, then did a lovely little descent into Fairy Dell (beautiful waterfalls despite originating from the town's runoff) and up to Lawson's lookout from which nothing in particular could be seen, unlike from Martin's Lookout where the cross on the clifftop at Lost World doesn't look so far away but it's across a deep river valley which my knees would hate both going and coming. As it was, they were pretty unhappy with running on the roads by the time I got back to the B&B.

George asked if I had found any leeches and I was about to say no when I looked down and saw one questing blindly on my shoe. A liberal application of salt soon had it doing an impersonation of the Wicked Witch of the West ("I'm mellltinnng!") but I did get leeched later in the day when we followed a really pretty walk from near Hazelbrook/Lawson which took in no less than 5 different waterfalls. An awful lot of effort has gone into making all the steps on all the different trails throughout the Blue Mountains, and I need to explore more of them!
