running intervals (Moneghetti fartlek) 20:00 [4] 4.35 km (4:36 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2160

Not too bad. The pavement felt softer after rain.

running warm up/down 24:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel 2160

warmup 8 min, warmdown 16
1 PM

riding 1:20:00 [3]

Rode to Brighton to meet Sheridan for lunch and from there to the orienteering at Tangari (Woodcroft) via Marino, Hallet Cove, the Coast to Vines rail trail to Reynella, & Reynell Rd. Perfect winter's afternoon to be admiring the ocean below along the Cove Rd and then the valleys which I didn't have to go up & down because a rail trail doesn't.
3 PM

orienteering (Tangari) 21:55 [3] 3.1 km (7:04 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2150

This is a nice little reserve with a network of tracks and I enjoyed myself but legs were very much post-bike. I took the soft option and let parents give me a lift home (but I did print out the Whyalla event info for them).

riding (Brownhill Creek) 57:00 [3] 19.3 km (2:57 / km)

Nice. Had been waiting for a morning which was warmer (before rain) to do this. Not as hard as expected.

running (Belair night) 53:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel 2150

To the redwoods and back in the company of John, Simon, Tyson, Steve & Aiden, Zara/Callum. I was slow with no real excuses.

Afterwards, with Tyson's help, I tweaked the Whyalla courses some more and have managed to come up with a short sprint around the gardens & foreshore, which should keep people amused. Oh, and I have heard that there will now be a start draw for the SA long champs after all.

running long 1:19:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel 2150

Shepherds Hill, Eden Hills, Bellevue Heights, Flinders Uni and home. Had been looking forward to this as one of my favourite runs but didn't realise how low in energy I still am. Really struggled, and hills popped up where they had never been before, I swear. On one of these, at about the hour mark, I actually had to stop, then sit down and rest, but my heart rate certainly wasn't resting...

Note

I finally accompanied Wassi to Zumba class. Now, I am NOT A GYM PERSON, and nothing more than fondness for a dear friend who I otherwise don't get to see because she's on maternity leave, would entice me into a room full of mirrors to demonstrate my 108% lack of coordination, standing alongside someone who at 9 months pregnant still weighed less than I do :) and for some bizarre reason, I think I enjoyed myself...and I only stepped on my own feet twice!

Note

Outcome of scans & subsequent date with the sportsmed doctor:

Bones are suitably dense (just like the rest of me?)
Hamstring has tendinopathy (no surprise there, it's chronic)
Whatever you call it where adductor tendons join to the pelvis is showing signs of pulling (general wear & hopefully not tear)

Now for the sucky bit: the lump on the front of my ankle which doesn't bother me and which I hadn't even noticed until a couple of months ago, and which couldn't be classified on ultrasound, has caused enough concern that a date with the plastic surgeon had already been made for its removal (as in "you should have that cut out before you go overseas"). Um yeah, the timeframe is a bit tight for this!
8 AM

swimming 35:00 [3] 1.0 km (35:00 / km)

Had a dentist's appointment first thing at Marion so curiosity got the better of me and I decided to see what $7.20 gets you at the brand new (state-of-the-art) SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre. I'm not normally an indoor pool person but the 50m pool was a joy to behold - and ruined by the presence of a boom across at 25m. I hate swimming 25m laps, and the most awkward thing was that when swimming along I could see the floor below/beyond the boom and so klonked it a couple of times because I didn't look up in time. Afterwards I found my way into the second women's changeroom, which is a mirror image of the first one in which I had left my gear, and was greatly confused by the absence of said gear (and the same-but-different configuration).
6 PM

running warm up/down 41:07 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel 2160

Warmup 21 min including runthroughs
Warmdown 11:50 min
200m floats x 7 = 8:17 (first one 58 sec, others more sensibly 71-75)

Afterwards the good ol' hamstring expressed an opinion. Don't know what benefit 4 days off running had, if any?

running intervals (400s) 12:23 [5] 3.2 km (3:52 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2160

You know what I don't like? 400s. Because I always start out too fast. So I didn't. Some variation because of darker patches on the uni loop and the slight 'hill' on the back straight, but generally fairly consistent.

Note

Finally the pressure in my ears has equalised and I can hear properly again. Still sooo exhausted, that I cancelled the Arrows meeting I was meant to be hosting.

Note

Yeah, so I missed the sprint champs (sorry John) because at that time I was wandering around Whyalla. Which was actually pretty good, and there are some fun control sites, but the street map is only slightly weird in the way it's drawn (all canopied areas, including over playgrounds, are black like buildings, and lawned areas are a green cross-hatching!). Sadly, the pond in Ada Ryan Gardens, where we stopped for breakfast on so many childhood holidays to Port Lincoln, has been filled in in the last week - but the peacocks are still there (presumably not the same ones as 30 years ago?). Not sure whether to also run a sprint around the gardens; the detailed 1: 1000 map is even stranger in its colouring, with paved roads in grey and the grass in the olive green colour we have come to know and love as "out of bounds; cross and be disqualified"!
