Note

Nothing actually hurt today so I decided to keep it that way by not exercising - unless you count taking the dog for a walk twice, over an hour of stretching and strengthening, and exercising my voice by another 3 hours of lecturing...

Friday Mar 25, 2011 #

7 AM

swimming 36:00 [3] 1.0 km (36:00 / km)

Took it easy 'cos I was a bit stuffed. Pleasant though.
7 PM

riding (Brownhill Creek) 58:30 [3] 19.3 km (3:02 / km)

The creek is creeking already after this week's rains...and the sulphur-crested cockatoos are making an absolute cacophony in the trees at one point. Left this a bit late so it was dark when I got home, but my bottom was well lit (scared the dog when I walked in with a glowing rear - at least I wasn't flashing).

6 PM

running intervals (Moneghetti fartlek) 20:00 [4] 4.3 km (4:39 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2150

At Belair. Wow, this hurt! Possibly the fact that I had been standing and lecturing for 4 hours immediately prior was somehow relevant. Encouragement from the guys in fatigues drinking beer alongside their ute in Long Gully was slightly weird.
7 PM

running (Belair) 1:10:30 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel 2150

warmup/down for fartlek 13 min
running Zara home across the golf course 10:30
Along Long Gully then up the hill at the end to Upper Sturt Rd, then back down the southern rim of the park 47 min. John & Simon were rather more sprightly than me but I thought maybe I actually had some strength for once. Almost caught myself being optimistic :)

Tuesday Mar 22, 2011 #

7 PM

running intervals (225s) 8:02 [5] 2.25 km (3:34 / km)
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 10

Mortlock Oval on the grass. Something twinged in the hamstring when I started but it didn't get worse. I managed to dodge footballers plus numerous dogs and their walkers, and remain reasonably consistent.
49, 48, 48, 47, 48, 48, 49, 49, 48, 48

running warm up/down 38:51 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 10

warmup 12 min
warmdown 14:40
recovery 200s 12:10 (1:19-1:25)

Monday Mar 21, 2011 #

6 PM

running (Monday night) 37:42 [3]
shoes: New Balance

Run from Eden Hills with LOTS of other hills in it. I think this may be the route which Tyson refers to as Fern's Hilly Run and which he has previously been known to complain about. In his absence, I fulfilled that role a little too effectively (sorry guys). I do know that flat runs are actually better for me for recovery, and I hadn't intended to run at all, but I came home from work so mopey that George sent me out to "benefit from some company". He was right, of course, and anyway I had to be at Fern's for WA meeting.

Note

About a month ago I booked a 6pm Virgin flight for May 22nd after WOC trials - out of Launceston, to Melbourne (and then Adelaide). Not sure who else was booked on this flight, but definitely Ben & Mace. And now apparently the flight doesn't exist!

Simon & Bridget couldn't find it when they went to book, I've been to the Virgin website and sure enough, it's no longer there (on any Sunday night). But I definitely didn't receive any message from Virgin; I don't know if anyone else on the same flight was notified?

The Sunday afternoon Virgin options out of Launceston are now 1pm (impossible) or 10pm (which wouldn't make any Adelaide connection). And to think that I picked the 6pm Virgin flight because I was worried about getting back from St Helens in time for the 4:50pm Qantas flight :(
9 AM

swimming 35:00 [3] 1.0 km (35:00 / km)

Before OSA AGM. Already 23 out so pond seemed nice & cool.
10 AM

orienteering race (St Peters College sprint) 22:52 [4] 3.8 km (6:01 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2160

Also before OSA AGM, which started at 11am. I started at 10:35. Doubt was expressed as to the likelihood of my getting back in time, but I made it. When I felt myself flagging I tried a bit harder :) A fairly clean run apart from going once to the wrong wall in a courtyard at 3, and running into a deadend out of 6 and having to double back - maybe 20 sec on each?
3 PM

riding 47:00 [3]

From home to Zara's (at the top of Hawthorndene not the bottom of Pole Rd) for afternoon tea. Going up the back streets at the bottom of Sheps seemed as tough as it did last week but I didn't feel as bad. Finally mastered the act of standing on my pedals, too. Briefly sampled the temperature of the Sodens' pool afterwards but timed it right so that George arrived with my dry clothes shortly thereafter (Bryn has apparently made a resolution to jump in the pool every night - but he has already resorted to running around the golf course first in order to warm up before taking the plunge).
