running long (Marion Coastal Trail) 1:44:04 [3] 17.0 km (6:07 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2140
Short version: from Brighton Jetty to Hallet Cove and back via the clifftop walk and about 1000 stairs in total; Simon once counted them.
Long version: SARRC Australia Day Trail run, with Ben, Mace, Tyson, Simon, Lauren, John. 50-ish runners started from Brighton Jetty at 7am; Mace & I stopped briefly to be ladies and after that we kept having to overtake, which seemed to always involve catching up to a bunch of people just at the point where they were climbing the stairs. Tyson met us at Hallett Cove and we all did a loop of the conservation park to see the cool formations such as the amphitheatre and the sugarloaf. Then we began the process of overtaking people again, all the way back. I'd say the steps were something else I needed to practice for Cradle, so that's another tick on the list. (Incidentally, Paul Pacque is doing the Cradle Mt run too. There are about 67 entrants all up.)
Decided to do the last 2km on the beach rather than the road (as penance because I wimped out and didn't run the beach on Summit to Sea) and it was an effort. Hopefully better for my shins than the pavement, but playing doggie-dodgem took a lot of concentration. The swim at the end was great, the coffee average. Then Ben & Mace (my house guests) took a nap while I went into work to give drugs to people.
