swimming 25:00 [3] 0.5 km (50:00 / km)

I needed to walk the dog first in order to get warm enough to feel like swimming this morning. The walk took a while; I think he wants to join the local tennis club!

orienteering race (Night Champs) 55:28 [3] 5.1 km (10:53 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2130

Night navigation is not my strong point but it was wonderful running around Kuitpo forest all by myself. Then Paul Hoopmann zoomed past. He took 8 minutes out of me. I think he should have been given the women's trophy, I only obtained it by default.

Note

Jen's recipe for a perfect day:
1) walk Meatloaf
2) go for swim
3) meet Fern for coffee
4) go op-shopping
5) go Subaru-shopping
6) visit parents
7) tell George all about my new Impreza over dinner
8) run night-champs
9) one last drive on country roads in the dark in what is hereafter to be known as my "old" Subaru

From Thursday onwards I will be driving a silver 2003 Impreza :) So excited!
Oh yeah, and it's an automatic. Not sure whether this means I have sold out, but it may actually be better for my knee/hip on long drives. I'm happy with the trade-in price I got for my old one as it has quite a few dents in it - and now I don't have to wash it!

running 37:00 [2]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 10

Suburban jog after work to try to loosen up. Stiff hips/quads since running hard downhill yesterday. Oh well, that's the downhill protection needed in advance of Black Hill which is only 3 weeks away.

Then I went to Steph M-F's 18th. It's a long time since I was 18...

running (Belair) 50:00 [3] 9.5 km (5:16 / km)
shoes: New Balance

With John & Lauren (I do mean Lauren this time!) along Long Gully past the cherry tree plantation to the redwoods, up the singletrack to Saddle Hill Rd and back down to Long Gully then back along the creek. The cherry trees are flowering pink, arum lilies are white everywhere along the creek and blue forget-me-nots are blooming in the damp spots under the trees. I found myself humming "Some enchanted evening" and then for the rest of the run, trying to remember which film or musical that comes from. For some reason I think it's South Pacific?

Note

Spent the day at a palliative care workshop. All was good until they referred to a particular handbook, the next edition of which, I suddenly realised, I am 2 weeks overdue on reviewing. Probably should have been doing that instead of attending the workshop...

Note
(rest day)

I am finally getting through the backlog of work-related tasks which result from having a day or two off to go orienteering. As for all my orienteering-related tasks, I've got as far as writing a list.....

Note
(rest day)

Had intended to go to Morialta but was overtaken by sheer weariness. Managed to achieve vast quantities of dishwashing and then consumed takeaway so that no more dishes were sullied :)

running 1:14:10 [3]
shoes: Mizuno Wave Rider 10

Ran across to Tyson/Fern's (17 min) where we were joined by John, Mikey, Simon, then trotted across to Karl's to collect him, up past the cemetery, across the creek and back through Mitcham (39 min). Then I escorted Karl back - never knew that house I often run past was where he & Bess live - and ran home from there (18min). Knees and shins felt good by the end of this but then I was so hungry I made dinner before stretching.

Note

My shoes were squeaking, probably from my orthotics, but I did like the alternate theories being mooted by the group. Favourite was that I actually had mice going round & round on little treadmills inside my shoes!

running 1:04:20 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel 2130

From home to Belair Triangle & back in the rain - up Randells (33 min) down Gloucester (31min). I'm sure this used to take 70.

Very envious hearing everyone's stories of rogaining - even my parents' - but on the bright side I think I am now capable of functioning at work this week.
