orienteering intervals (Keithcot Farm Sprinterval) 18:00 [3]
shoes: New Balance

John set 3 nice little sprint legs of about 700m each on Keithcot Farm and we chased each other around them (4.16, 3.47. 3.40) and then collected the tapes.

orienteering race (SA sprint champs) 14:53 [5] 2.5 km (5:57 / km)
shoes: New Balance

Sprint champs at Nuriootpa. Unfortunately we wern't allowed in the caravan park at all so the course had to go right around the outside. Not heaps of route choice but a good course considering the constraints (included 2 untimed road crossings). About 2 minutes after I started the bottom dropped out of the sky; I think there was hail in it. I haven't been quite so wet since a summer thunderstorm in Belair. When the guys came back they were talking about the unmapped lake which had formed in a hollow near the oval, since the time I ran past it.

5 seconds behind Lauren and a minute behind Sus; no time losses (apart from heading out of the start the wrong way because it was such a schemozzle and the start units weren't in a place that indicated your starting direction).

running warm up/down 40:00 [3]
shoes: New Balance

For both the morning and the afternoon. After the sprint we went for a run to see how much the creek had risen, to check the control that was in the wrong place (a depression on the creek bend, but the control was actually too far from the creek) and to admire the unmapped lake. We confused a few competitors by running off the map, and they followed us (oops).

running long (Brownhill Creek) 1:39:30 [3] 19.0 km (5:14 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2130

I got up at 6.15 and it was a perfect morning so I decided to do the flat run through Mitcham to the end of Brownhill Creek and back home, using the single tracks as much as possible. 52.15 on the way out and 47.15 on the way back which is slightly downhill - altitude gain (and loss) for this run is 160m. It's always a bit spooky at the far end of the valley because it's so isolated (lovely and cool in summer though), but there is a nice old house with a donkey in the garden, wisteria on the verandah which will be blooming beautifully in a couple of weeks, and, this I'm sure I've never noticed before, an astronomical observatory on the roof of the barn! By halfway home my right thigh/groin was uncomfortable again, and I really needed breakfast...

running (belair night) 57:00 [3] 9.6 km (5:56 / km)
shoes: New Balance

The usual loop with John, Fern, Zara, Lauren, Sus. Not quite as soggy as 2 weeks ago; it smelled just like the middle of the night on a rogaine. We startled a huge roo above the Lower Waterfall - I think that must be a kangaroo resting spot. Not a particularly fast run because we were all chatting, but it was nice and steady. My right thigh/ITB had been feeling bruised during the day (post-physio?) but didn't bother me running.

running long 1:23:00 [3] 14.2 km (5:51 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2130

Shepherd's Hill, Eden Hills, Bellevue Heights, Flinders Uni and home. Every time I run through the uni I wish we could have a sprint race there. Wasn't sprinting today, felt a bit slow, and towards the end I could feel the neuroma in my foot.

Note
(rest day)

Attack of the Killer Physio.
Apparently my adductors don't like being released.

Probably could have gone for a jog afterwards but used the last of the daylight to go geocaching around Mitchell Park instead. There was a very loud bang from the direction of Marion Rd, followed by an extremely loud bang, a fair bit of acrid smoke, the sound of nearby house alarms going off, and shortly after, the sight and sound of fire engines. Still not sure what blew up but I suspect a business on Marion Rd because traffic seemed to be directed through the back streets of Mitchell Park. The fire engines were going home again by the time I was, so it can't have ben massive.

Note
(rest day)

Busy preparing for Spud Night so didn't go running. Officially, neither did anyone else, though I note that some secret "girls aren't as wussy as boys" training took place :) 11 Arrows ate baked spuds and then we introduced Fern and Lauren to watching Gilmore Girls.

orienteering (checking controls) 45:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel 2130

Checking all controls at Woodhouse for the club relays and turning the units on. Pretty much by map memory! Made it back in time for the briefing. :)

50 teams today, fine weather, all packed up by 2.30 pm thanks to the combined efforts of the hardworking Arrows.

Note

I felt more tired afterwards than if I had done a rogaine!

Note

I guess technically I shouldn't have been both organiser and controller for this event, but seem to have got away with it. Could be because everyone knows their roles so well by now. Someone remind me in a couple of weeks that I should have invoiced the clubs by then, please!
