running long (Pioneer Women's Trail) 2:38:00 [4] 28.2 km (5:36 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2130
Hahndorf to Burnside, following the Pioneer Womens' Trail which is roughly the route that German women followed in the 1840s when bringing their vegies down to market. (They then had to walk back again.) About 60 other people from the SARRC trail runners group had the same idea. I kept losing the lead pack who were clearly faster than me, only to see them again when they hadn't read the map or followed the signs. And we were provided with pretty detailed notes...not to mention the dedicated people like Harry Waterhouse standing shivering in the fog on street corners to hand out lollies and drinks.
Happy with the distance and pace but I was slow up hills compared to others - legs still feeling the effects of last weekend; also carrying a pack does make a difference. But if Pichi Richi is 50% longer both in time and distance, then that would be about 4 hours for the marathon, and I'd hope to be a bit fresher then, so I think I'm on track. (And there will be a lot of familiar faces doing that run, methinks.)
