orienteering 45:00 [2] 4.0 km (11:15 / km)
shoes: new Olways

Spent some time reintroducing myself and Fern to Victorian spur-gully terrain. We had to cut Bruce's course short because we arrived late, having still been on South Australian time.

orienteering race (sprint) 21:44 [4] 3.5 km (6:13 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2130

Castlemaine Botanic Gardens sprint. I was surprised that they got a decent length course out of such a small area, and impressed by the lockable SI controls. Managed to bypass the yobbos' party without getting yelled at. Got terrible cramping spasms across my middle and back, probably because of sitting for so long in the car (drove from Keith today). They settled down by the end of the course, for which I was thankful. Clean enough run, I guess.

Pasta afterwards at Capone's was good, as usual.

swimming 23:00 [3] 0.5 km (46:00 / km)

swim=good
late for work=bad
being gently told off by supervisor=expected
my not having packed for Vic yet=ditto

orienteering race (Scatter O) 28:32 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel 2130

I convinced Fern to see what Scatter O is all about, so we ran around together. It was shorter than usual because Tom measured the other courses by actual route rather than direct line, it was nice and cool, and I felt the best I had for ages. Could have raced it pretty hard if there wasn't a road trip ahead....

Note

Stretching and strengthening 20 min. Work overtook life today so no exercise.

running 21:00 [3]
shoes: New Balance

Ran home after dropping the car off at Eblens for a service. Very tight calves/shins from hard ground lately.

Note

Was intending to run back for my car after work but gratefully accepted a lift from a colleague as it was 35 degrees.

running hills (Morialta) 50:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel 2130

Since I was the only one running up the hill I treated it more as a recovery with lots of stopping to stretch. My legs are really hammered after the weekend - wondering if I didn't eat enough, or eat the right food, after the long run. Anyway, I saw 4 firetailed finches and managed to avoid treading on literally dozens of skinks which darted across the path in front of me. Then I went and sat in an OASA meeting and stiffened up again. The best bit was, it finished about 9pm (possibly because I was too tired to keep putting my 2 cents' worth in).

Note
(rest day)

Stretching and strengthening 20 min. I think I forgot, yet again, to have any down time, or do any housework, on the weekend.

orienteering 50:00 [2]
shoes: Asics gel 2120

Refer to other people's trogs for the details of John's staking himself in the thigh during what became our 15-minute warmup. (If it's not a mortal wound, does that make it immortal?) After he fixed himself up with us all standing around gawking, we found our way across to the training day and Fern, Lauren, Simon and I took it in turns trundling around a course which was the equivalent of a mixed bag of lollies (some legs were great fun and others a bit like black jellybeans).

orienteering race (sprint) 17:41 [4] 2.45 km (7:13 / km)
shoes: Asics gel 2120

This is where fatigue really set in after yesterday's long run. Didn't see Simon, Fern or Lauren for dust except at the control where I did laps of a clearing where a control should have been, when it was really in an unmapped clearing on the other side of a green patch. But hey, it's all good fun until someone gets hurt (oh wait, John just did).

Note

Spent the afternoon geocaching with my parents. A couple of caches required a 2km return walk and somehow it was 5pm when I got home. Definitely more fun than writing OASA council reports, which I should have been doing.
