swimming 23:00 [3] 0.5 km (46:00 / km)

Finally a swim! It's been 3 weeks and it showed...squeezed in between the OASA L2 controllers' workshop which Robin and I co-hosted, and John's party tonight.

Note

Surely lugging 400L of rainwater one-watering-can-full at a time across the garden to what's left of my rose bushes must count as some sort of exercise!

Note

Make that 600L, after the evening watering stint.

running (Belair) 46:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel 2130

Possibly it's always been nicely cool and breezy in Belair on other nights when we've been sweltering on the plains, but I think not. Anyway conditions were perfect for a short flat run with John, Lauren and Andrew to the redwoods and back. I took a long time to warm up though - very stiff through the back and hips. Probably too much road running lately. Need to get out into the terrain again (and buy a pair of Kayanos, since my last pair went into a rubbish bin in a motel in Whyalla after the Blinman rogaine!)

running (Shepherd's Hill) 1:08:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel 2130

Longer version of Shepherd's Hill with a few more ups and downs. Didn't hurry because when I am tired it's easy to trip over my own feet. Though I was so bored by the last bit back through the suburbs that I did speed up in order to get home quicker. Nice that the mornings have been cooler this week.

Note

I am getting sick of eating peaches for breakfast, but there are only about 200 left on our tree still!

running intervals (fartlek) 16:00 [4]
shoes: New Balance

Decided to see if I could completely bugger up my hamstring by doing some more fast stuff. Vanessa's short-and-sweet fartlek seemed like the answer. 2x90sec, 2x60sec, 4x30sec, 4x15sec with the equivalent time in between to recover and try to jog normally. I couldn't remember if it was supposed to be 6x15sec but by then I was gestufft. Had to walk for a couple of minutes before I could stagger home, stretching the hamstring at every street corner. Quite a fun session though I did get sick of looking at my watch!

running warm up/down 20:00 [2]
shoes: New Balance

Followed by strengthening and stretching 20 min. Not going to admit to being in possession of pissy little 2kg weights (I really liked the purple ones but they were 2.5kg and therefore too heavy for me!)

Note
(rest day)

If it's a rest day why don't I feel rested? Too exhausted even to swim. I would pay good money for a decent night's sleep! The gusty gully breeze which starts up in the evenings dies down about midnight, leaving the room at 30 degrees. Unfortunately the dog doesn't settle down - he figures, if he can't sleep, why should we? May have to show him a roll of gaffer tape and explain its function.....

running long 1:55:00 [3] 20.0 km (5:45 / km) +600m 5:00 / km
shoes: Asics Gel 2130

From Zara's where Pole Rd crosses Sturt Creek, up to Ironbank (picked up Andrew Murphy at the top of Coat Rd) along to Cherry Gardens, down to Mundoo Lane, up to Ilunga Drive, past Scott Ck cemetery and up Nicholls Rd, down to Scott Ck primary school where thankfully there was water, to Loftia Park where there wasn't, through the park and up the steps to Evans Drive, down Coat Rd to Andrew's and back through Wirra Birra Springs after a splash in the Murphys' dam with our socks on (and that's not all!) It was just like being in Creswick Lake with the pines and stringybarks all around.

20km door to door, not really sure of the time as there were a few stops, plus Z & I walked the last bit back from the dam because it's hard to run with wet everything! Thank goodness the cloud cover lasted and it wasn't too bad out running. The worst bit was getting in a hot car to drive home :(

Right hamstring is really tight (after intervals?) and left ankle has been twinging since the run in the wrong shoes last week, so might have a quiet couple of days. What I really need is a good night's sleep!
