Note
(rest day)

In-law stuff in Sydney. 40 degrees with humidity is just not pleasant. Taught the kids how to fill up water balloons. Their aim is better than mine...

running 1:10:00 [3] 13.0 km (5:23 / km)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline

The plan was for sprintervals at Aberfoyle, but was thwarted by
a) only 3 of us turning up
b) the presence of a solid fence surrounding most of the school buildings

So John and Simon and I went for a run. The goal was to find the bushland which I knew used to be on the old Field River map - the first orienteering event my family ever did, back in summer 1985 (I remember it was hot and prickly and I hated it).

After a few twists and turns through the streets of Aberfoyle (and a few unnecessary hills, but it would make a great street map) we crossed Chandlers Hill Rd and Education Rd and made our way into the reserve and across the golf course - which had only a low farm fence on the side we entered, but was fenced 8 foot high with razor wire on the side we exited - and into Tangari which is a great little patch of scrub with lots of singletracks. I reckon we should get out the O map and run around in circles....

On the way back we short cut through Horndale winery and were saved having to scramble down into and out of Field River by the presence of an extremely large pipeline. I guess this is how the water gets from Clarendon Weir to Happy Valley Reservoir.

It was a good fun run, and justified taping my ankles, though other shoes would have been better - these just don't seem to have enough support. Oh well, a day off running tomorrow, and a 6 am flight to Sydney, after which I am really looking forward to decent coffee somewhere inner-suburban before going to Penrith where it will be 40 degrees.

running (Belair) 1:20:00 [3] 13.0 km (6:09 / km) +340m 5:27 / km
shoes: Asics Gel 2130

Through Belair with Fern past the lake and both waterfalls to the tap at the top of the park. Felt like a lot of up but only 43 min. Then down through the redwoods, up again, and back down Long Gully. Legs and back pretty tight and tired after AOTKP and I can tell I need to get back on the whoopee cushion (I mean Balance Cushion) because I have tweaked 3 different ankles this week - probably because my lower legs are getting a bit rigidly inflexible again. Nice night to be out; koala tally 2.

Note

Attack of the Killer Physio

It's been a month and I'm surprised how well I've held up, actually. No truly awful spots though I didn't like having an elbow in either hip. Will have a good stretch and a fairly easy weekend now.

running long (Brownhill creek) 1:41:00 [3] 18.0 km (5:37 / km) +270m 5:13 / km
shoes: Asics Gel 2130

32 min up through Randell's Reserve to the BP at Belair, 22 to the bottom of Pony Ridge, 47 min back home along Brownhill Creek, past the hollow tree where a woman gave birth last week - and was rescued by some offenders doing a community service programme, according to the Sunday tabloid. Took all the singletracks I could find, but the last bit back through the suburbs was a bit boring. Very glad I made & ate pasta when I got home from meetings after 10 last night. Surprised that this run was nearly 20 min faster than previously (some months ago) but I suppose I could be running 1 min/km quicker (finally!)

Note
(rest day)

It's gotta be, since I slept through the alarm and the dog and I have a couple of meetings tonight.

Note

Strengthening and stretching 20 min. Pretty sure my back is getting sronger (but not longer). Might have to invest in some of those dumbbells that the tough girls talk about :)

running 32:00 [3]
shoes: New Balance

John Simon & I celebrated Tyson's birthday in his absence with a short traverse of Shepherd's Hill in 35 degree heat. Troy & Scott then joined us for pizza. It turned out our eyes were bigger than our stomachs :)

swimming 25:00 [3] 0.5 km (50:00 / km)

It should not be possible to be this tired or out of breath during a pansy little swim. I think my legs were lactic from tromping around Warren CP without proper innersoles yesterday. Still, better to be buggered now than during the run, and it was nice to have Fern's company.
