running long (trail run) 1:55:00 [4] 20.0 km (5:45 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2130

Joined the Cool Running/Road Runners trail run group with Simon, Zara and about 25 others for a lap of Scott Creek Conservation Park. First 12km (east loop) took about 65 min; after a refreshment stop at the cars (Almanda Mine car park) half of us set off up the hill for the remaining 8km (west loop). Legs were flagging a bit by now and collectively we overshot a track junction and ended up at the bottom of a hill which we could have staggered back up, but by consensus chose a short scrub section along the creek instead. 50 min for this section with a few stops to regroup. Simon was not implicated in the oversight :)

Darn good fun when everything smelt nice after rain and the tracks weren't so hard or slippery underfoot. Might go out with these guys again.

swimming 28:00 [3] 0.6 km (46:40 / km)

Had more energy* today but no more coordination. Often I am still breathing in when my face goes back under. And my left arm just seems to be along for the ride - the only time it does anything is if I'm bumping into the lane rope when trying to stay in a straight line doing backstroke.

*Thanks to last night's pasta. I definitely get more energy out of pasta than I do out of rice. Rice is just something bland to put curry on top of where I like pasta so much I can eat it straight from the pot while the sauce is still cooking. George thinks I'm daft (he's right in general, but not on this particular point) and since he's not that keen on pasta, there's all the more for me :)

orienteering race (Summer Series) 36:54 [3] 6.4 km (5:46 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2130

Scatter O on a soggy night at Hawthorndene, well set by Simon. Steady run but I didn't push it. Not too many others about. Punching wasn't very efficient because the goal was not to tear a damp control card.

running (Belair) 1:10:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel 2130

With Fern, Tyson, Andrew, Scott in the rain. Everything smelled so nice! None of us were in a hurry tonight and by consensus we avoided the hills. This meant following the trainline east through the park (though we did go up & over the hill rather than through the tunnel) to the old National Park station and back down Long Gully. The tail-end boys got tooted by the freight train; I am now deaf from its brakes. I felt better as the run went on and actually sped up a bit at the end - it's clear that I take about 20 min to warm up into any run.

running (Brown hill Creek) 1:13:00 [3] 13.0 km (5:37 / km)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline

Because of all the fun group trail runs on offer these days I rarely get to run by myself, or anywhere flat. So when I woke up this morning and stretched and nothing actually hurt I seized the opportunity. Through Mitcham, along Brownhill Creek to the bridge at the end of the caravan park and back again.

This morning's fruit scavenging tally: 1 plum, 1 cumquat, 1 apricot :)

strengthening and stretching 20 min

running (Morialta) 40:00 [2]
shoes: New Balance

Very gentle run at Morialta after AOTKP. Fern kindly chaperoned me to the bottom of First Falls, the top of First Falls and back in time to meet the others as they finished the proper run.

Note

Attack of the Killer Physio

Porcupine City today. Also found out where my psoas muscle is when Kath got stuck into my hip.

running (Shepherd's Hill) 1:22:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel 2130

Ran from home to meet Scott, Simon, Fern, Troy at Shepherd's Hill. Took them up through Eden Hills & down through Bellevue Heights and Flinders Uni. Plenty of stops for water & stretching. Ran home after. Should be stretching now instead of writing.

Note

When I book a taxi the night before for 5 am in Canberra, I expect it to come at 5 am. I do not, when I ring at 5.20am to say "where's my taxi?" expect to be told "You're still 5th in the queue, there aren't any taxis available, just because you booked last night doesn't mean you get priority!"

Thank goodness Alex heard me yelling on my phone outside her bedroom window, stuck her head out the window and offered to drive me to the airport...
