swimming 20:00 [3] 0.4 km (50:00 / km)

I took the kickboard with me and all the shame of my childhood swimming lessons came back - felt exactly like the biggest most unco kid in the pool again, clutching a spongy wedge of cheese. At least I wasn't 11 and wearing my mum's swimsuit with the skirt any more, and when I got rid of the cheese I did feel comparatively more coordinated :)

Note

After I finished work George & I went to the native plant nursery in Belair, to buy a Christmas tree. We now have a foot-high Rottnest Island Pine (Callitris preissii). Also walked through the cherry tree plantation to the redwoods but couldn't find the geocache cos I didn't have my GPS. Then we played in the fort and tunnels in the Adventure Playground and bought soft-serve cones from the Ice King van. Why can't all Saturday afternoons be this much fun?

orienteering race (Summer Series - Hackney) 43:15 [3] 8.0 km (5:24 / km)
shoes: New Balance

So nice to run somewhere flat, and with a map in my hand! Decided I was too tired to think on the run for scatter O so did the long course (advertised 6.2km, measured distance 8km). Proved my weariness by doing a 180 out of the first control, thinking I was at no 2 already. Not sure about these shoes, the cushioning isn't great and would be bad for trail runs, but they are okay for short stuff. Was nice along the Torrens, saw a lot of people going the other way on the medium course, only one had fallen in the St Peters billabong while taking a short cut. Lost concentration and overshot the last control because I was distracted by the smell of Nepalese wafting from a restaurant on Payneham Rd...

running (Belair) 1:19:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel 2130

North past the lake to train line, along the north side, acros the line, up the hill past Lower Waterfall to the tank. I decided to run singletrack past Upper Waterfall to the tap at the top corner, boys went to the fire tower then back down Jubilee Drive, Fern/Zara came up Jubilee Drive to meet me at the track then we took the singletrack down to the redwoods and the new path past the cherry tree plantation and back down Long Gully. It is so nice not to have to do an extra uphill across the ridge there any more! My pace was steady enough but not a lot of oomph in my legs and they sneakily demanded a walk when I least expected it. Might have to feed them more pasta and steak. Lovely fresh cool night for oxygenating the brain though.

running (Morialta) 54:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel 2130

I really should remember that Morialta is not the best option after Attack of the Killer Physio. Especially not when breaking in new shoes. I need a longer warmup before tackling the hills :( We took the rough track up the south side to Pretty Corner, along Norton Summit Rd then down into 3rd Falls and back the usual way. Views were great, and my calves/arches weren't.

Note

Attack of the Killer Physio

I think the process of Kath actually getting stuck into my legs works better than the needles, but the aftermath is more painful. Should help counteract the effects of putting 400L water on the garden via tank and watering can.

running (Bridgewater) 1:27:00 [3] 14.4 km (6:03 / km)
shoes: Asics Gel 2130

With Simon and Fern from Bridgewater to Mylor via the old Heysen trail, through Engelbrecht reserve where the bridge has been washed out for years (sightings of Robin and Adrian around this point) and up Mountford Rd, through Mylor Conservation Park and past the YHA. It's about time someone had their 21st here again, though I can see why we no longer use the area for orienteering. Performed the water-in-water-out balance at the oval in Mylor (about 55 min, 9.1 km to here) then shortcut via Wilson Rd and all the way down Cave Ave (32 min, 5.3km). Times and distances not exactly exact. Nice morning for a run though slowish on the hills. Hip was a bit tight afterwards.

swimming 29:00 [3] 0.6 km (48:20 / km)

Think I will have to get the kickboard out to do something about coordinating my arms and lungs.
