rogaining race (3 hr minigaine) 2:50:00 [1] 16.8 km (10:07 / km)
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline

Okay, so I ended up doing the minigaine with my mum rather than John N, and we walked rather than ran, but it was quite an effort for her. Stuck to the flatter suburbs: Athelstone, Morialta, Rostrevor, Magill, Tranmere, Firle, Hectorville, Newton, Athelstone. 200 points in the first hour, 190 in the second, 80 in the third :( partly because mum was getting tired and also because there weren't many controls in that section. Could have pushed for the 30 points in Thorndon Park but then would probably have been 3 min late. Quite a few teams were late back, maybe caught out by the 1:40 000 scale. I think we were 3rd women so mum was pleased.

Note

David Talbot and Lucy Eckerman won, as expected, 880 points. I think that had I run with John we would have been second, but not by much. Cracking 1000 would have been very difficult on this course; it was the same size as the 6 hour out that way a few years ago!

running (Belair) 58:00 [2]
shoes: Brooks Adrenaline

A gentle trot around the northern parts of Belair with Nicole, Fern, Sus, Zara, Troy, Scott, Simon. Up the hill to the fun diggings and then down through Echo Tunnel. I don't even have to duck my head in there (ha ha). Girls outnumbered boys (yay) though I do feel sorry for John who has a stress fracture in his foot :( Tyson went caching by himself. Can't believe how much more my legs are able to move from the hip after Attack of the Killer Physio.

Note

Attack of the Killer Physio

Kath really got stuck into my ITB (plural) which was horrible but I could feel them loosening up. My options are to do even more stretching, or less running, because I am becoming more inflexible as I age. She is going to get me a spiky peanut to roll on.

running (Shepherd's Hill) 1:12:00 [3]
shoes: Asics Gel 2130

The longer version of Shepherds Hill with a few more ups and downs. I am ashamed to admit that I had to walk some of the ups - my legs had nothing in them except lead. I am blaming the semi-evil New Balance shoes from last night and the fact that it was already 30 degrees and I wanted my breakfast. But it was lovely and cool in the (already completely dry) creek valleys. When I am there I can forget about the city all around me and the fact that I have to go to work later...

Note

20 mins stretching and strengthening. Think my legs have progressed beyond the point where there are obvious sore spots, and into general rigidity.

running (Brownhill Creek) 1:00:00 [2]
shoes: New Balance

Left work too late to get to Morialta so ran with Susanne and Fern from Mitcham. Up Brownhill Ck to the ford at Tilleys Hill Rd (still enough water flowing to wash my face :) and back at a leisurely pace. Tried out the New Balance shoes which the guy in Joggers World sold me swearing they have the same stability and cushioning as my favourite Asics. Not sure that I believe him. Why doesn't anywhere keep size 7 Asics 2130 in a wide fitting?

orienteering (coaching) 1:00:00 [1]
shoes: Asics Gel 2130

Not sure if this counts, really, but it's an explanation as to why I didn't run Black Hill. The rewards of helping Susanne, Adrian and John x3 with the talent ID coaching weekend for 17 12-13-year-olds were much greater (i.e. being able to walk normally, not having run Black Hill). Plus I really needed an orienteering fix!
