Orienteering race (Brown) 57:52 intensity: (9:57 @2) + (18:22 @3) + (22:56 @4) + (6:37 @5) *** 4.24 km (13:38 / km) +136m 11:45 / km
ahr:135 max:178 spiked:9/10c shoes: Inov8 ORoc280-B 2013-10

Brown at Patapsco Avalon. 3.6 km, 165m climb, partly sunny and temp around 50 with a breeze. I was a bit overdressed. We hadn't been to this part of the park before (though we've been to other parts farther upstream, I think). Spur and reentrant terrain mapped as mostly white woods. I kept decent bearings (to make sure which spur I was on) and didn't find a need to pace count as there were plenty of trails around. Good course by Boris G and Joe B, though the plunge down the hill to the last control was a bit nerve-wracking (too steep to just let go but I didn't have to sit down anywhere ;-)).

7th (or 8th?) out of 35-ish, with a couple MPs and a DNF and more to finish. Kathleen finished before we left and was happy to move into 1st place, 9 seconds ahead of Dave Webber. I was pleased not to have any major--or really minor--errors, just a misreading of trails heading to 9 (I climbed a hill to the mapped clearing SE of the control hill and corrected from there) which didn't cost me more than 30 seconds. I'm not in shape to do more than hike up any hills, but I jogged when hills or trails headed downhill. :-)

Yoga 50:00 [1]

Lots of shoulders today, some balance (warrior 3 and eagle pose).

Not logged, but I get strength work every week lifting grandson #2, now about 20 lbs. (Who seems to on the way to walking by Christmas or shortly thereafter!)

Note

Some of the people who read my log (there are a few of you, I think) may remember Marilee Ball of SVO. I competed with early in my O career and enjoyed visiting with her and Mike's greyhounds. She passed away a few days ago; her obituary was shared on Facebook.

Found on Facebook. Not really orienteering, but fun to explore nonetheless.

Yoga (Vinyasa) 50:00 [1]

Many of the same things we did in Deanna's class yesterday, plus half moons and warrior 3s.

Yoga 50:00 [0]

Easy class, mostly on our bellies, but occasionally on backs.

I started my watch ("running indoors") to get a sense of how active we can be in yoga, but this was a bad class to do that for, with almost no activity at all. :-D Maybe tomorrow.
