Star Village, upper 70s to start

Running to the start of an O training made up of permanent marker locations Petr H has found and added to the O map.

The road/trail run from the disc golf parking to a trail jct east of the Behlehem water dept building below the Star got me warmed up, but I couldn't run very much in the woods...there was either vegetation or rocks or downed trees and logs to get past.

Petr H had added small brown squares to the part of the Star Village map north of Mountain Drive North where he had found permanent markers of some sort or another, and Glen set a course connecting them, so I set out to find them. Only some of them actually had an actual O marker...a piece of wood/plywood(?) about a foot square painted like an O flag with a number. At others all I found was a post, squared pipe or both. One location didn't appear to have a marker at all...maybe it was removed by mtn bikers whose trail is nearby or maybe the fallen tree there was sitting on it.

Good O training (course not vetted, no markers at some spots), though the heat and summer vegetation were not all that pleasant. I'd like to redo this course in late spring when there's no snow but wildflowers and grasses haven't grown much yet, and it's cooler.

Two locations were in overgrown areas making the marker or pole hard to find, and then there was the missing one. All others were more easily reached.

Around the neighborhood on sidewalks and roads, most of which have street lamps. Temp about 67, so it felt pretty nice compared to earlier today.

Only saw one neighbor out walking (I guess the dog walkers go out earlier, perhaps while we're having dinner) and one fellow sitting outside his house. He smokes cigars, but not in the house; though I didn't smell any as I passed by.

Hiking 1:51:00 [2] 2.73 mi (40:39 / mi) +78m 37:20 / mi

Hawk Mountain Sanctuary near Kempton, PA (NOT the scout reservation that's embargoed...). First visit; I'd seen pics on Facebook (PA NRDC) showing large groups of raptors in recent days. We did see up to seven broad-winged hawks (I think, from conversation overheard) in a cluster high overhead; many vultures; and three(!) bald eagles, from the North Overlook. Once you get past Bald Lookout the trail was rough/rocky, in places difficult for my knees. If/when we go back I'll take hiking poles (at least one).

Time doesn't include the ~hour we sat on rocks with the other birdwatchers (which shows on the track).

At Trexler Nature Preserve in north-central Lehigh Co. (Schnecksville, to be precise). Warm late-summer day; probably close to 80 when we started, 85 by the time we left.

Went on some trails I hadn't been on before, and discovered some places where previously-mapped bike trails no longer existed. Finished up along the creek, including cool down walk to the car from where I last turned around. I carried the park's trail map (showing the color of the trail markers) and a screenshot of the terrain/bike trails map from the Lehigh County Trails Finder page which has many, many trails/bike trails marked (some no longer used/accessible).

Afterwards, we took off our shoes and waded (and sat) in the Jordan Creek. Not an ice bath; very comfortable. :-)

Skipped yoga this morning because my left knee is still bruised from my fall on Saturday, so went for a walk in the neighborhood instead.
