Brown course at DVOA-Warwick Co Park. 3.7 km, 70m climb nominal. Gorgeous weather; sunny and low to mid 50s with a bit of breeze; closer to 60 by the time we left the park.

The park includes the north-facing slope of a hill (with plenty of rocks and charcoal platforms) plus flatter areas in the floodplain of the creek that flows through it. If you paid attention to your bearing there wasn't much of a problem navigating (at least on my course). 5 of the controls were within the open field areas or just adjacent, so not too challenging, but this map looks like it's tough to set courses on. Anyway, I had fun.

We spent time afterward catching up with various DVOA people. :-)

Swamp Creek Stomp Trail Race, purported to be 5km. Because of yesterday's heavy rains the normal course was rerouted (and maybe not remeasured?); there was also a 10km that did the same course, twice. Temperature was about 40 at the start, and the sun peeked out later.

The 10km runners started first, so by the time we got to the first muddy area it was well tracked and potentially shoe-sucking. :-) I was happy to be wearing my new O shoes which had worked well for me the past two weekends, in the snow. In fact, the mud was as hard to slog through as the snow had been, but there were drier sections too. Passed several people there early on and a few others picking their way through muddy spots (and a young woman who had already lost a shoe in the mud). The two women I traded places with most often during the race (there was also a pair of younger girls I flip-flopped with) both passed me in the last 1-1.5 km and finished a minute or two ahead.

There were a number of stream crossings, too, with water levels not more than about 6" deep, but some involved ropes either going down or up the slope...not so much because they were steep but because they were so muddy/slippery. Once the feet got wet they stayed wet.

But I was the only woman 60 or older so I won a medal. :-) My time was better than a couple of the 45-49 year olds (but none of the 50-59s). About 87th out of maybe 110? Glen was an awesome 6th overall(!) and first M60+.

In the neighborhoods. Temp about 50 and cloudy.

Went out to rt 309 to check that PennDOT had indeed re-placed a drain grate that I had reported as dislocated, and they had.

Headed to the Lancaster AQS show. While it's a bit of a drive, I hope to get down and back between rush hours.
