Scone half mile was at a jog. Knee somewhat uncomfortable after Pilates, and it affected my stride somewhat, but I managed to stick it out, then returned to walking.

Red course (F21 class) for EMPO club championships. Janet Findlay and I decided we'd compete on the 6 km red course against each other. She was faster overall, beating me about 10 minutes. Most of that difference is fitness (and yes, I mean weight, but also training background as I've had a low volume year) and natural speed. She doubted herself on number 10 (see next paragraph) but I've been on the map enough and especially that part to know I was in the right place.

I had no trouble finding any of the features; some of the flags seemed unnecessarily hidden by trees or downfall but I didn't lose much time there. A bit of a mix up meant the numbers on the loose control descriptions didn't match those on the map for a couple of points (10, 11) but the map matched the ones in the woods. Janet was faster on all but a couple of controls. She found point #1, not far from a park road, in less time than it took me to jog down the road to the attackpoint.

There aren't many EMPO members and competition on most courses is fairly thin most years.

It was really nice to see and talk to Francis F, and Vlad and Lina G, who drove down from Quebec. Lovely day in the woods; mid 60s and sunny. The lake levels were low; not surprising as we didn't have a whole lot of rain this summer.
