Billygoat Kid at Egypt Mills in the Delaware Water Gap. Thanks to Clem McGrath and Sandy Fillebrown plus their able DVOA assistants for a fine event.
Temps were in the upper 50s to start moving into the mid 60s by race finish, nice for running. I tried to run when I could, but after the first half my knees were aching on every climb so I moved, but slowly. (Took Aleve at 5 pm tonight and they're still painful 4 hours later especially on stairs.)
Fun course, and I was behind a few people for the first 3-4 controls but then on my own for most of the rest, though the leading 9-10 blasted through between 4 and 6 on the Kid. Other BG-ers trickled through during the rest of the race, but I did a lot of navigating on my own, not always the best route choice but they got me where I wanted to go.
Lost a couple of minutes going to 4 when I got farther left than I really wanted to be; and 6 after falling while headed down the hill from KP (#11 or 12 on the BG) because I was trying to keep up with the pack. I then lost confidence, didn't go over the next ridge as I should, and eventually relocated off the sharp road bend south of where we started. AP has me listed with about 2 minutes of error at #4 (52, a reentrant that at least a few of the lead runners came by) and 7+ at #6 (TP). The awful climb between SO and DO2 almost did me in, but I made it.
Problem with punching the control at 15 (NA, box #82) but Ed D and Greg L were there when I was so we could vouch for each other.
Gorgeous weather conditions for the awards ceremony which recognized 77 official BG finishers and the top male and female Kids.
