Note

Though I wore the Garmin for this race, and it recorded splits, there is no track. I'm wondering it the BG-Kid tracked wiped it out or there's some other reason. Guess I should clear some memory.

Orienteering race 59:29 [3] *** 4.67 km (12:44 / km)
spiked:10/11c slept:6.5 shoes: Inov8 ORoc280-A 2013-08

Brown course at Tourne Park near Boonton, NJ (HVO local meet organized by Nadya and Kseniya). Nominally 4 km with 120m climb. Wore my Active Ankle.

Jogging on trails where I could, though some were rocky enough to make me slow down to a walk. A goodly amount of trails for this course, but then there are quite a few trails in the park. The Brown course didn't have to climb up/around the Tourne, but I suspect Red and/or Blue did.

We didn't go up the hill after to see if there was a view (supposed to be able to see NY harbor on a clear day...or at least that was the case when the park was established, according to the plaque on a rock near the parking area). Instead we visited with G&S&O who came over to hang out with us after we finished.

I was in third place when we left, with Ching-Hua Chen just a bit ahead, and Ed Despard in the 30-40 minute range (I don't remember the exact time but the first digit was a three :-)). Satisfied with my time for this course (no steep climbs and more trail running than typical). Woods were wide open for the most part with come prickly vegetation around some of the marshes. Temps were in the 70s but the air was pretty dry so decent conditions, but I'm glad it's supposed to be cooler (62 for the high) tomorrow.

Tomorrow's course is more than twice as long but with only about double the climb; finishing in 2-1/2 hours or less would be nice. We'll see.

Pilates class (bands) 55:00 [1]
slept:7.0

Most of the usual stuff with bands (no bridges), plus something she threw in for shoulders/back which may hurt tomorrow.

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

Legs not so tight today.

Circuits included among other things arcing each leg over a folding chair in a rainbow type motion. Hard, especially after having done some other leg moves. Another was using the long band-with-handles type of stretchy band to do side steps...you would stand on the midpoint of the band, feet about 1' apart, then cross the band in front of you, hold handles on hips, and sidestep. I really felt this in the side of my calves/lower legs.

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]
slept:7.0

Soreness in quads and overall tiredness evident, but a good class and great stretching. Should feel back to normal by tomorrow.

Glad I didn't go to the yoga class...I would have been toast trying to hold those poses.

Running (dirt) warm up/down 9:00 [2] 1.18 km (7:38 / km)
shoes: Trail NB 704 8.5D

Trying to loosen things up prior to the race.

Running (dirt) race 37:47 [4] 5.03 km (7:30 / km) +3m 7:29 / km
slept:6.0 shoes: Trail NB 704 8.5D

Dodge the Deer trail race, put on by the Albany Running Exchange, at Schodack Island State Park adjacent to the Hudson River (under and just south of where the Berkshire Spur crosses the river. Temps in the low to mid 50s at start; warmed up to 60 glorious degrees by the time we left.

My goal was to run/jog the whole way; there was one slight hill where I backed off to a walk but it wasn't very long so I'll give myself an A for that (A+ reserved for no walking at all). The park and trails are basically flat, largely dredge fillings from many years ago (the area started out as three individual islands), and the trail was very even and a great running surface, with only short stretches that had been driven on and therefore had ruts and puddles, but there were non-water ways through.

Wore the Active Ankle so I wouldn't have to worry about *my* ankle, and it was fine, and doesn't hurt much now, so support/strengthening seem to be what's needed to feel better. (I'm still unsure how to treat it next weekend when I do the short Billygoat race; I don't like the AA for that long).

Finished (edited) 6th of 9 in F60-64; 292/352 (well behind third place who was around 30 minutes, a time I probably couldn't do 20 years ago).
