Orienteering race 1:02:51 [4] *** 4.77 km (13:11 / km) +255m 10:24 / km
spiked:5/8c slept:6.0 shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #3

Green prologue course. SL 3.1 and lots of climb for the first 5 controls. Good to 1,4,5,6,8. Had to do a lot of bearing/pace count on this older, generalized map...lots of contour lines and wiggles but not many attackpoints.

To 2 I didn't climb enough (attacked from trail bend under purple line) and hit the small trail SW where it was generally flat and relocated. On 3 I attacked from the big trail after passing the cliff but didn't descend enough at first. At 7 there were actually 2 flags in the circle, one on a hill very close by which I checked first before seeing the one at the boulder.

Thanks to Judy and Jeff Saeger for the courses and to their support staff (Joanne, Jim, etc. from NEOC). Temps in 60s all day, with showers off and on in the afternoon.

Orienteering race 33:14 [4] *** 3.09 km (10:45 / km) +118m 9:01 / km
spiked:6/6c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #3

Chase start green course, well behind bl and pbricker and 4-5 minutes ahead of kadley and Dean S. Course did a bit of climbing until 4, but not as far up the hill this time, and then contour or down from there in. 2.5km SL

Ken and Dean caught me on the downhill run to 6 and finished a bit ahead. No mistakes, which was good considering I knew they weren't far behind. Good compass/pace count to 4 which was a reentrant on the side of a hill almost 200m from the trail with no other features to use besides contour wiggles. Took the little (snowshoe) trail off the road to 5 just for the adventure of trying to follow it, so probably lost time vs the wider road/trail. 5 was the boulder (near the hill) that was #7 on the first course, coming from the opposite direction.

Showered a bit while I waited to start but held off while I was out which was good because I had a headband and not a hat to keep rain off my glasses. Poured after we were back.

Had a very nice chat with Gail while Glen went to pick up a couple of controls when all were done. Hope PG had a good time at the Rochester Adventure.

We've been trying to get out for a walk with the baby most of today but between his schedule and shoddy merchandise we've been delayed. First it was a flat tire on his big-wheel stroller that we can't re-inflate, and then, when I went to buy an umbrella stroller as a last-resort backup, the first one I got was defective (with its most important safety feature inoperable) and had to be exchanged. Once he has another meal were going to try again.

Walking 15:00 [1]
shoes: Sauc.Shad.6000#7-2012H

Around the block with mother and child, after getting a usable umbrella stroller and rigging up some padding to support an infant. It worked! He didn't sleep, but also didn't fuss.

I had my Garmin on my wrist but apparently forgot to start it, so time is estimated.
5 PM

Walking 8:31 [2] 0.48 mi (17:45 / mi) +11m 16:34 / mi

Around the block to mail something (put in PO mailbox on street) and get a measurement.

Walking 25:17 [2] 1.38 mi (18:19 / mi) +42m 16:44 / mi
shoes: Sauc.Shad.6000#7-2012H

And a bit more walking to get some exercise. Tour of part of the neighborhood. Lots of places to walk around here.

Hiked up the hill to Eagle Rock Reservation from G&S's house. It was the first I could get out today, while Owen and mom were busy with mid-day snack. He's doing great and looks fantastic for a one-week old, if I do say so myself. :-)

Warm but not too humid. 1.5 km (edited; it was 1.07 km to the lower corner of the reservation) to the top of the hill took a bit less than 20 minutes. My DIL said she did this climb in the weeks before Owen was due trying to encourage him along. Kudos to her! Did a loop on the yellow trail before heading back down.

A bit of baby wrangling today, but nothing else. Will try to get some walking in tomorrow before it gets hot and before the predicted showers/rain.

A good long nap
