Walking (indoor track) 29:13 [2] 2.0 mi (14:36 / mi)
shoes: Sauc.Shad.6000#7-2012H

Missed Pilates yesterday because I needed to be crowned; had an eye appt today. So I hit the gym and took to the track, listening to Ask Me Another podcasts (while keeping track of the laps).

Followed this up with adductors, pulldowns (11), leg presses, and a few shoulder rows on a machine set to 50 pounds.

Note

Eye doctor I saw today mentioned vitreous detachment, which is more common as we age.

He also said not to run (nothing "jarring") before my follow-up visit in a few weeks.... Biking, elliptical, walking, erging are okay. Hmmm.

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

It was warm! And humid! Felt like mid-summer, not the end of January. (48F at class time)

Walking (indoor track) 9:36 [2] 0.67 mi (14:20 / mi)

Arrived at Y early and had time for a warm-up speedwalk on the track. Several other Pilates class members were also there.

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

With rings. Lunges were hard; left hamstring couldn't do all the repeats but right leg was okay with them. Left knee has been bothersome too but I suspect that will pass in a fee days. Keep stretching!

Walking (indoor track) 19:12 [2] 1.33 mi (14:26 / mi)
shoes: Sauc.Shad.6000#7-2012H

To make an even two miles (added on to the 2/3 mile before class), pushing the pace and passing a number of other walkers. There was even an older gentleman jogging who was trying his darnedest to keep ahead of me (ie, wouldn't let me walk past him). Good that I was able to inspire someone. ;-)

10 pulldowns

Proud of the fact that I actually showed up and competed. Think it's the coldest ambient temperature I've run in (about 14 F).

Had to walk most of the uphills, as usual. But I used the long road downhill (last 1.3 mi, give or take) to my advantage and caught/passed two women I'd been behind on the climb.

Snowshoe race 1:21:05 [4] 4.93 mi (16:27 / mi) +292m 13:54 / mi
shoes: Dion 121 snowshoes

Trail NB 704 shoes

Curly's "alternate course" snowshoe race in Pittsfield State Forest. Temp read 12F at the start; about 19 when we left the park. Sunny skies and just a bit of breeze near the top of the mountain. This was a "climb to the top of the mountain and then run back down" race, as you can likely see from my track.

Trail up was the ziggy-zaggy Turner Trail which really took out a lot of the steep and even had fairly flat sections which I jogged as much as possible. Once we reached near the top I recognized things as I'd done a hike here last summer starting from Berry Hill (which we climbed up and around). From the Taconic Crest Trail north we then turned down the William Berry Way trail which brought us to the uphill drive that we then ran down in to the finish. I knew I could stretch my legs out more on the downhill, and discovered that if I ran in the less-traveled part of the road I could actually grip a little better and run just a bit faster; that's how I was able to pass the two women I'd followed up the Turner Trail. Felt good to run downhill, though my right hip flexor was starting to tighten up.

Also racing today: pbricker and oeo2oo (who was accompanied by Colette who didn't run the race).
