Every major's terrible
(fixed broken link)

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

No stepping today, which is probably just as well. Good warmup and floor routine, then weights (how'd they get so heavy?!) and stretching (ah!!).

Hiking warm up/down 15:00 [2]
shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #2

Walk to start, half on road (downhill) and half to the top of a small mountain (compared to some others around.

In mid 50s and still mostly cloudy but with promises of openings here and there.

Orienteering race 1:45:30 [4] **** 4.6 km (22:56 / km) +180m 19:11 / km
spiked:5/10c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #2

FR=6.557km, 282m climb -- no wonder it felt like a Green course

Brown Long on Turkey Mountain map, from Camp Shea on Mine Torne Rd. Happy with my navigation for the most part except close to controls (1, 2, 5, 8, 9). Kept close of track of where I was in the two long legs (just messed up in/near the circle). Sloppy route choice to 6 and 7 but found them okay. A long day and tired legs now. Good to see everyone!

Stopped for Frappuccinos and a rest, then later for beer and sandwiches at Keegan Ale in Kingston. Detoured to Ravena to check out a park (Joralemon Town Park) Jim H told me about at today's start with an extensive frisbee golf course and neat wildflowers. Nice setting with lots of limestone outcrops, so if you're into that, and near Albany, it's a neat place (even though it says "town residents and guests only" ... they probably don't check if it's not really busy, especially if you're not using the pavilion, though out-of-state license plates might be suspect).

And ended with ice cream cones from Friendly's. Back to the real diet tomorrow. :-)

Hiking warm up/down (walk to start) 22:53 [2] 1.48 km (15:27 / km) +121m 10:58 / km
slept:6.5 shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #2

Walk to start of the middle course at Bull Pond, West Point, up a steepish windy trail to a road near the pond. Glasses got steamy near the top of the climb so I didn't have high hopes for them being effective during the race. Fortunately, Brown used 1:7500 maps. :-D

Orienteering race 57:03 [0] *** 3.3 km (17:17 / km) +115m 14:43 / km
spiked:11/13c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #2

FR = 3.96 km, 153m climb, but I'm not sure where all that climb comes from

--Brown Middle F55 at Bull Pond. Start was at a road junction and the start triangle was in the woods 60-70m away, and then #1 wasn't too far beyond that. I bobbled a bit in the circle because I was still getting into the mapping, but wasn't too far off. Two was a longer leg and I was high going over the hill and had to correct (had intended to contour south but veg was a little thicker than depicted). Slow and steady to the rest.

Nice running weather, though still a bit humid (such that I couldn't use my glasses much)
1 PM

Orienteering race (sprint) 27:42 [4] *** 2.72 km (10:11 / km) +61m 9:10 / km
spiked:17/18c shoes: Trail NB 706 9D # 2

FR 2.72 km, 61m climb

--Red Sprint at Camp Natural Bridge around barracks and up to the obstacle course area E of camp. Got on the wrong path between 4 and 5 and ended up high to the ENE and cut back. Glen caught me on the way to 7 and Ali on the way to 11. Still I'm pretty happy with my time as I don't run in their league. :-)
Then played AP bingo after and won little Hershey miniature candies. Talked a bit to "pi" who I hadn't spoken to before though I'd seen him in British Columbia around the NAOCs.

Saving my legs for West Point. :-)

10 AM

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

Added light weights to some of the moves.
11 AM

Fitness equipment (elliptical) 45:00 [3]
shoes: Sauc.Shad.6000#7-2012H

2.11mi -- Feet less sensitive today so was able to complete the whole 45 minutes planned. TVs were off so possibly a cable problem?--less distraction. (Staff were turning them on as I was leaving.) Finished a WWDTM from a few weeks ago (just after super Tuesday, whenever that was), and started a Freakonomics segment from March. Leg presses, pulldowns (12!), adductors.

Wednesday May 2, 2012 #

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

Lots of stepping and upper body strengthening. Nice workout.

Tuesday May 1, 2012 #

Note

Where I went yesterday (track starts at the 4-way trail jct). I jogged some on the trail between 11 and 5L, but not much otherwise as I was loaded down a bit more than I would have been during the Billygoat.

Had trouble, again (as during vetting), with the downed trees in the big reentrant leading up to 6.

10 AM

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

Good class using bands. The band I purchased at Target broke (about 4" off the end). It was already too short. Not recommended. Legs tired after so only did pulldowns and adductors.
