Running (dirt) race 36:38 [5] 3.17 mi (11:33 / mi) +34m 11:11 / mi
shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #3

Another snowshoe race converted to a trail run. Camp Saratoga's trails had a number of icy stretches and patches, so the course was re-routed; a typical ~7.5km course was shortened to about 5km. Interesting that my time was very close to last week's... More fast runners today so I was 47 out of about 50. The top 5 passed me on a repeated-loop section shortly after the halfway point (I think Glen said fastest was about 20 min).

I managed to slip on ice before picking up race numbers (twice, even!) and have a bruised left glute and nice purple right elbow (because I didn't yet have my spiked shoes on, and walked across ice covered with a dusting of snow). Didn't slip on the course, though.

EDIT: Added Forerunner track

Results

Running (dirt) 16:01 [3] 1.16 mi (13:48 / mi) +13m 13:21 / mi
shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #3

Warmed up on part of the course, to check out trail conditions. A good warmup.

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

Used elastic bands, which I didn't expect because we used a "tool" on Tuesday. So I hurried back to my locker/bag to get the ones I bought.

Decided not to do machines; it's a gorgeous day so I'll go for a walk later.

Walking (paved and dirt) 1:05:14 [3] 4.24 mi (15:24 / mi) +95m 14:23 / mi
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 #6 - H

Too nice outside to exercise indoors today.

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

Calves are still just a bit tight even after class. (from 5k race on Sunday)

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

Used rings, which generally gives a really good leg workout. Lunges were hard as usual.

Fitness equipment (elliptical) 40:00 [3]

Hill intervals level 3
1.86 mi

Note

Adductors (12@75 and 12@70lbs) and pulldowns

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

Sore legs -- especially calves and left hip area, but stretching helped.

Saratoga Spa Winterfest 5k

Note

Sorry, Pats fans--I was rooting for the Giants and it worked.

Note

Saratoga Winterfest 5k. Supposed to be a snowshoe race, but no snow, so a redesigned course avoiding most of the icy patches. Only 48 finishers, approximately. I was 36th, Glen was 7th. :-) My time of ~36:32 was better than I expected for a trail race.

Running (dirt) race 36:32 [5] 3.18 mi (11:29 / mi) +65m 10:48 / mi
shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 #3

My Garmin lists a bit over 5km; could be "noise."

This re-routed course included the big hill slog that's normally in the snowshoe course, but also included a neat plunge down another steep part of the same hillside. No snow on this, just dirt, but some folks were taking it easy, so I passed 2-3 tentative folks and plunged on down in my O shoes. :-) Weight forward, little steps, heels into the hill where necessary.

Nice race, excellent post-race food spread (Saratoga Striders support crew), and raffle prizes! Someone took the snowflake mug just before my number was called; I got some one-size-fits-all polyester/cotton blend gloves which may not get used. Glen also won a raffle prize, and picked up a little Firefly light for when he runs at night.
