Note

Order of visiting controls on Saturday:
(41)-70-65-(21)-87-69-29-27-58-75-31-41-19

( ) mean misses. I was SO close to 21 but lost confidence where I was and bailed. Went back to search downstream for 41 when I found out I had lots of time left after 31.
9 AM

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

Back to Chatham after session break. Left glute/ham still sore from Saturday, so careful with arabesques and stretching.

Exhausted!
Rogaine training at the CNYO Regaine where a 6-hour score O was offered (singles--no teams). Managed 571 of the possible 1900 points, in about 5:45. More tomorrow when I can download FR (don't tell them I said that!). As first woman (of two) I won a tube(?) of Zanfel and a garden decoration that looks like a giant mosquito. ;-) Thanks, CNYO!

A bit of jogging on the downhills, but mostly walking/hiking on trails/roads or through the woods. Fell 3 times, no major scrapes, blisters, or bruises, though I felt pretty beat up afterwards and the next morning.

My favorite control? The island in the pond near start/finish, canoe provided. ;-)

Least favorite, at least from where I attacked it, was the one I eventually got to first, an hour and 10 minutes into the event. From where I attacked I had a ton of unmapped logged areas with all kinds of muddy roads running through them. In one I got both legs stuck most of the way to the knees, and would have lost a shoe or two if I hadn't been wearing gaiters to which the shoes were attached. Should have thought about where the control was likely set from (a trail 150m away, not the road corner 600m away). Second least favorite was the first one I tried to get and then bailed after searching for 15 minutes; I had time to look again near the end of my loop and eventually found it downstream (I think) from the circled location.

I probably should have trekked over to the west edge of the map just to see the view (I heard later the control marker had been vandalized...I think only the punch was left behind?) -- it was a clearing that overlooks the next valley and a lake at the Labrador Unique Area (which includes forested wetlands and a boardwalk that loops around to a lake overview). It's also a hang-glider launching point, though we didn't see anyone hang-gliding. :-)

Not a lot of people did the score O (7 or 8?); there were 25 doing the REgaine. Nice weather for the event with temperatures in the low to mid 60s throughout (I think 50s overnight for those staying) and no real rain, just light sprinkles some of the time.

Note
(rest day)

Tomorrow looks like a nice day for a walk in the woods. ;-)

Note

Saw a Google Alert for an orienteering article by a New Zealand college student. I really like the article -- it's well written and seems to capture the excitement and anticipation at the start of an A meet well.

But I had to laugh at the advertisement embedded in the article (I don't know if the same one appears for everyone, but I see fried fish and chips/fries -- don't know many orienteers who eat that type of food!).

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

Used rings (aka 'circles') for extra hip torture. ;-)
11 AM

Fitness equipment 15:00 [0]
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 8.5 #4-Y

Full Fitlinxx (arms and legs) circuit, increasing a few weights from last time.
Plus:
2 x 12 RDL using 15 lb. bar
1 x 12 pulldowns at 62.5
2 x 12 adductors at 70

Plan a longish walk later but may have to wear long sleeves-- 60 with a 20 mph breeze!

Walking hills 1:26:49 [3] 5.66 mi (15:20 / mi) +114m 14:26 / mi
shoes: Saucony Shadow 6000 #6 - H

Updated with FR information.

Temperature around 60 with partly cloudy skies and breeze, so MUCH nicer than yesterday, and nice for walking. The loop was from home south on 66 (mostly flat for almost 3 miles), up the hill on Reed Rd and across Richmond back to 66. Jogged a bit of some of the downhills.

New construction on Reed Road, a brick house replacing what used to be a trailer home(?) on a farm. The adjacent old farmhouse has broken windows and high weeds -- probably hasn't been lived in for 15-20 years. Great views from a couple of high spots along the road, but the wind through the trees was making me nervous at times.

Note

Got most of the lawn mowed, accompanied by numerous opportunistic dragonflies, before grass pollen knocked me down. Think I kicked something up into the eye which is now swollen. (allergic conjunctivitis? Looks lovely, nice and red and puffy...) Took an allergy pill and have a wet cloth over the eye. Kinda hard to see with one eye and reading glasses when lenses are optimized to work together.

Note

Eye is 80% better now, but still a bit itchy. The grass can wait.

Pilates class 55:00 [1]

Good class; used balls. Too many full planks, though, as my shoulder's now achy.

Followed with some strength exercises (the Fitlinxx circuit for arms and legs, which I've neglected for some time now), RDL with 12 lb. bar, and a few balance things on a balance disc as left ankle is achy even though I wore the Active Ankle this weekend.

Oh, and weight is going in the wrong direction again. I'll have to watch that!
