Orienteering (Green 1) 1:32:12 [4] *** 6.8 mi (13:33 / mi) +190m 12:29 / mi
spiked:10/13c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 (old)

Day 2 of Colorado 5-day, at Peaceful Valley Scout Ranch. Overcast almost the whole time I was out made it feel more comfortable than yesterday's sunny weather. I managed to mess up 3 controls (one more than the other two) for a total of just over 4 minutes of error, enough to drop me to second place in F50 (by 33 seconds) and 13th overall on Green 1 (from 1st/F50 and 12th/26 yesterday). Errors on # 2, 3 and 5, with 5 being the biggest. It was a route choice error which cost me about 2:30 overall--fast running down a spur, but then up the wrong hill. Felt better physically than yesterday and ran a little harder, I think. Good effort despite my bobbles.

Orienteering race (Green 1) 1:21:17 [4] *** 6.5 km (12:30 / km) +175m 11:01 / km
spiked:12/13c shoes: Jala Jukola Spider 6 (old)

Day 1 of Colorado 5-day A-meet. The control I'm calling a non-"spike" was actually one where I had gone the right distance but was about 25 meters too far to the left. I stopped an looked down the hill (I was looking for a 1.5m boulder on a hillside), didn't see anything that looked the right size & pondered; then looked to my right and saw it across the way--time lost, about 45 seconds (a guess). Otherwise I found the control placement to be not too technical (in my opinion). :-)

Controls were placed generally in the wooded and/or rocky areas of the map, but there was a lot of Colorado-typical running across grassy fields. Several barbed-wire fences to cross (slip under) slowed me down. Good courses by Virginia and Bob Lehman.

Hiking hills 2:30:00 [3] 5.55 mi (27:02 / mi) +400m 22:05 / mi
shoes: Trail NB 706 9D # 1

Acclimatization hike near Colorado Springs. Did a loop from the Palmer Trail/Section 16 trailhead. Starting elevation about 6600', max elevation about 7900'. First third was uphill; steep with switchbacks, up to a saddle;downhill was more gradual and wound around hillsides and through a glen of a stream that didn't have much water in it. Great hike with several views of Colorado Springs and out into the plains. More fun than I thought it would be. :-)

Note to self--add DNF Chron 1-9 to USOF page...

Exerc. Class 55:00 intensity: (45:00 @1) + (10:00 @3)

Exercise class in Chatham. We did a weight circuit first, then a stepping circuit (following warm up/aerobics and followed by abdominals and cool-down).

Good way to shake things up, especially with 16 exercisers in the room (I think it would be overcrowded with 18). It's too bad Jen couldn't keep her original studio. We make do pretty well most of the time with the American Legion hall.

Fitness equipment (elliptical) 35:00 intensity: (5:00 @1) + (30:00 @3)
shoes: Asic Gel GT2110 8.5D

30 minutes on the elliptical at the Y, followed by 5 minutes of cool down.

I also did 8 pull-downs at 50 lbs on the lat machine. Does this qualify as a partial pull-up (I won't reveal what fraction)?

Exerc. Class 55:00 [1]

Ex. class in Chatham. Due to the # of people there/lack of equipment/my late arrival, I had to make due with a small step (i.e., no risers). While this is better than doing step routines without a step at all, it wasn't very aerobic. Bummer.

If this keeps up I may have to leave Chatham and just go to the Y--but I really like this instructor, and some of the other class attendees. Maybe I'll even have to get outside and do other exercises, or go to the Y on my Chatham days... :-)
